Holiest day of the Year: Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter worldwide ~ link ~
Orthodox Christians across the world have begun to celebrate their most important religious holiday – Easter. A major sacred service has been held in one of Moscow‘s main cathedrals which was attended by thousands of visitors, including Russia’s president.

Russian President Vladimir Putin alongside Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin joined Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, as he led Easter Liturgy Mass in Moscow's Christ the Saviour Cathedral, Saturday. Several thousand Muscovites attended the ceremony which started late on Saturday night and ran until the early hours of Sunday morning. Before leading the ceremony, Patriarch Kirill received the Holy Fire from Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where thousands took part in Easter celebrations earlier in the day.

Puerto Rico has halted a $422m (£289m) debt payment due on Monday after talks to ease the US territory's crisis ended without a deal. Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla said in a televised speech he had issued an executive order suspending payments.

US Secretary of State John Kerry is in Geneva in an attempt to bolster a fragile, partial ceasefire in Syria. Mr Kerry is due to hold urgent talks on the situation with the UN envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, and the Saudi and Jordanian foreign ministers.

The German right-wing party Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) has adopted an explicitly anti-Islam policy. Delegates at a party conference adopted a ban on minarets, the call to prayer and the full-face veil, saying Islam was "not part of Germany".
