Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged continued military support for Syria's Bashar al-Assad despite growing concerns over Moscow's role in the war.

Mr Putin urged other countries to join Russia in sending "military-technical assistance".




UN: Jerusalem clashes May Ignite Violence Beyond Its Walls ~ link
 
A UN envoy has warned that unrest in Jerusalem "may ignite violence beyond its walls" after clashes continued for a third day.

UN Special Envoy Nickolay Mladenov urged all leaders "to ensure visitors and worshipers demonstrate restraint and respect" at holy sites. Israeli police clashed with protesters at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound.




Pentagon: Russia sending tanks to Syria ~ link
Russia has dispatched about seven tanks into Syria and is increasing its military flights to the country as well, the Pentagon says.

“We have movement of people and things that would indicate that they plan to use that base south of Latakia as a forward air operating base,” Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said on Monday. “That airport is being readied to be used as a forward air base,” Davis added, according to The Hill.
