NATO in anti-Russian air war games in Arctic ~ link

More than 4,000 troops from six NATO countries and three non-member states began a major air exercise over far northern Europe Monday in one of the largest military mobilizations of the year. Arctic Challenge is to last two weeks and involves more than 100 warplanes from the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Norway, and the Netherlands, all NATO members, plus Sweden, Finland and Switzerland.

The US Air Force will contribute 12 F-16 jet fighters as well as AWACS radar aircraft. The European countries are contributing their own F-16s as well as Eurofighter Typhoons and Tornado GR4 fighters. Norway’s Chief Brigadier General Jan Ove Rygg, in overall command of the exercise, said it would test “orchestration and conduct of complex air operations, in close relation to NATO partners.”

Russia's Air Defenses are redeployed in snap combat drill ~ link ~ This is likely a response to the on-going NATO+ air war games ongoing.  This is an indication that Russia is very uneasy about the NATO+ games and feels that there is a real chance of the war games being a cover for a sneak surprise attack on Russia!!!  That indicates that things are getting really dangerous in the World!!!  Stirling

Additionally, over 100 aircraft are set to be deployed for the drills in the next 24 hours, according to the ministry.

The four-day drills involving 12,000 military personnel, up to 250 aircraft and 700 pieces of military hardware were launched on Monday on President Vladimir Putin’s orders.

The drills are meant to help the military prepare for the Tsentr-2015 strategic exercises. The war games set to be held in September are expected to be the largest of the 4,000 military drills scheduled to take place in Russia throughout 2015.Meanwhile, Sweden, Norway and Finland along with other European nations and the United States take part in massive fighter jet drills, dubbed the Arctic Challenge Exercise 2015. The war games, held in close proximity to the Arctic Circle, involve some 115 aircraft, including tanker aircraft and 3,600 personnel. They will last until June 2, 2015.

NATO concluding largest ever anti-submarine war games in the North Sea ~ link

NATO launched its annual anti-submarine and anti-surface North Sea naval war games Monday. Approximately 5,000 sailors and other servicemen from 11 countries will take place in the exercise.
In a significant development, the North Sea exercise will incorporate forces from non-NATO ally Sweden for the first time, alongside naval vessels from 10 NATO countries. Norway, one of the founding members of the NATO alliance, is one of three Nordic country, including Denmark and Iceland, which are a full members. Finland and Sweden, while officially remaining neutral, have developed strong ties to the military alliance, especially since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

China’s armed forces are to extend their operations and its air force will become an offensive as well as defensive force for the first time, in a major shift in policy that will strengthen fears of accidental conflict.
A policy document by the state council, or cabinet, said China faced a “grave and complex array of security threats”, justifying the change.

History's Next Great War Zone - South China Sea  ~ link

At the moment, the war is just one of words. On Friday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called a U.S. Navy reconnaissance flight over the hotly contested South China Sea “very irresponsible and dangerous and detrimental to regional peace and stability.” The admonition came two days after the Chinese navy sent eight warnings to an American P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft, telling it not to approach Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly Island chain.

Beijing and Washington in recent months have been making many declarations about—and trading accusations and warnings over—these 3.5 million square kilometers of water that are roughly bounded by Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines,  Indonesia, and Vietnam, where annual commerce totals $5.3 trillion. About half the world’s oil-tanker shipments transit its waters. Six of the world’s 10 busiest ports dot its coasts.
