22 February 2014 ~ Second Update

Ukraine President flees Kiev after Coup D'Etat as protesters storm Presidential Palace and plunder gold - Army on Hold ~ link ~ Either Putin and Russia have just taken one large major defeat...or the 'shit is about to hit the fan'!!!   Stirling

It has been a busy night in the Ukraine.

First, the newly-installed interior minister declared that the police were now behind the protesters they had fought for days, giving central Kiev the look of a war zone with 77 people killed, while central authority crumbled in western Ukraine. Then despite yesterday's latest anti-crisis "agreement" which we said would last at best hours, the protesters continued their pressure against embattled president Yanukovich, demanding his outright and unconditional resignation, leading to his fleeing Kiev by airplane overnight to the far more pro-Russian city of Kharkiv located in the Eastern Ukraine, even as his arch rival, Yulia Tymoshenko, who is held in prison in the same city, was rumored to have been released on her way to the far more anti-Russian city of Kiev - it turns out those rumors have so far been incorrect.

Then there was a plethora of rumors that he has or is about to either escape the country and/or resign, sparking celebrations in Kiev, only for him to appear on TV subsequently and not only deny a resignation is coming, but that he accused the current leaders in Kiev of staging a coup d'etat and that all parliamentary decisions today have been illegitimate, saying "I did all I could to avoid bloodshed" while comparing recent events in the Ukraine to the "Fascist Revolution" in Germany. This was promptly rebutted by the Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski who tweeted there is no coup in Kiev and President Viktor Yanukovych has 24 hours to sign re-adopted 2004 constitution into law.

President Viktor Yanukovych described the events as a coup and insisted he would not step down.

After a tumultuous week that left scores dead and Ukraine's political destiny in flux, fears mounted that the country could split in two - a Europe-leaning west and a Russian-leaning east and south.

Ukraine Crisis: Vikor Yanukovych denounces Coup as he leaves Kiev ~ link ~ President Viktor Yanukovych said a coup was underway against him after he left Kiev for an eastern stronghold and the country's parliament debated a motion calling for his resignation. The resolution said that Mr Yanukovych "is removing himself (from power) because he is not fulfilling his obligations, and (that parliament) is setting elections for May 25."

In a televised statement on Saturday, he said he had no intention of resigning or leaving Ukraine, comparing the country's political crisis to the rise of the Nazis in the 1930s.

Russia angered at Ukraine "government" vote to remove President after "I won't resign" comments ~ link ~
Remember that (laughable) agreement that was signed less than 24 hours ago and was grandly endorsed by all European nations, and which delineated the next legal presidential election sometime between September and December? Good times.
With 328 (of the 450 seats) voting in favor, the Ukraine parliament has agreed to removed President Viktor Yanukovych:
“Yanukovych, in an illegal manner, removed himself from his constitutional duties,” Turchynov says in chamber before vote. The Russians are not at all happy with Siluanov exclaiming these actions "pose a direct threat to Ukraine's sovereignty and constitutional order."

Ukraine Protests Carefully Orchestrated ~ link ~ The recent protests in Ukraine have the stench of a foreign-orchestrated attempt to destabilize the government of Viktor Yanukovych after he walked away from signing an EU Association Agreement that would have driven a deep wedge between Russia and Ukraine. Glamor-star boxer-turned political guru, Vitaly Klitschko, has been meeting with the US State Department and is close to Angela Merkel’s CDU political machine in Germany.
The EU association agreement with Ukraine is widely resisted by many EU member states with deep economic problems of their own. The two EU figures most pushing it—Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and Polish Foreign Minister RadosÅ‚aw Sikorski—are both well known in the EU as close to Washington. The US is strongly pushing the Ukraine EU integration just as it had been behind the 2004 failed “Orange Revolution” to split Ukraine from Russia in a  bid to isolate and weaken Russia. Now Ukrainians have found evidence of direct involvement of the Belgrade US-financed training group, CANVAS behind the carefully-orchestrated Kiev protests.

CIA agent captured in Ukraine helping protesters ~ link A CIA agent has allegedly been captured in the Ukraine, as shown in the video. The Special Activities Division (SAD) is a division in the United States Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) National Clandestine Service (NCS), responsible for covert operations known as "special activities". Within SAD there are two separate groups, SAD/SOG for tactical paramilitary operations and SAD/PAG for covert political action. Special Operations Group (SOG) is the department within SAD responsible for operations that include the collection of intelligence in hostile countries and regions, and all high threat military or intelligence operations with which the U.S. government does not wish to be overtly associated. As such, members of the unit (called Paramilitary Operations Officers and Specialized Skills Officers) normally do not carry any objects or clothing (i.e., military uniforms) that would associate them with the US government.

Ukraine faces default as Russia stalls ~ link ~ Ukraine's plans to tap Russia for $2 billion in emergency funding have fallen apart, leaving the country sliding towards economic disaster.

Russia said earlier this week it was ready to buy Ukrainian government bonds -- part of a $15 billion financial aid package agreed in December -- but appears to have got cold feet as anti-government protests escalated. The Ukrainian finance ministry canceled the planned bond sale late Thursday.

Ukraine President vows not o resign and denounces Coup ~ link ~  Ukrainian channel ICTV broadcast a pre-recorded address by the President, in which he says he needs to "protect the people" and end bloodshed. He said he was legitimately elected and will not leave Ukraine or resign, describing events of the last week as “vandalism, banditry and a coup”.

Mr Yanukovich also claimed his car had been shot at, although no injuries were visible. "I am not afraid. I feel sorrow for my country," he told UBR television.

Yanukovich slams Ukraine events as Coup - with video ~ link ~ Pay attention to what he is saying...this is NOT over!!!  At the least, it will see the Ukraine split into two nations, but I suspect that Putin and Russia will NOT take this lying down!!!  Stirling

Speaking in a televised address from the northeastern city of Kharkov on Saturday, Yanukovych stressed that he has no intention of resigning or leaving the country, saying the events resemble the rise of Nazis in the 1930s.

Yanukovych said a coup was underway against him after he left Kiev and the country's parliament debated a motion calling for his resignation.

The president rejected parliament’s recent moves as illegal.

His remarks come after a lawmaker from the Western-backed opposition camp said Yanukovych would step down.

But, Yanukovych reiterated that he had no intention of resigning or leaving Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, parliament voted to speed up the release of former prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, from jail after it picked Oleksandr Turchynov, a close ally of Tymoshenko, as its new speaker. The parliament has also appointed a new interior minister.

Pro-Yanukovych authorities in eastern regions, meanwhile, challenged the parliament's legitimacy and said they were taking full control of their territories.
Regional leaders meeting in Kharkov adopted a resolution declaring the central state organs "paralyzed."  "Until the constitutional order and lawfulness are restored...we have decided to take responsibility for safeguarding the constitutional order, legality, citizens' rights and their security on our territories," the resolution said.
