Turkey is on edge as authorities are bracing for a fourth day of fierce anti-government protests in major cities to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Protesters are converging on Istanbul’s iconic Taksim Square to express their discontent with the government for the fourth consecutive day on Monday. On Sunday, thousands of protesters marched on Erdogan's office in Ankara, shouting "Dictator, resign!" and "We will resist until we win," and clashing with the riot police that responded with tear gas.
Meanwhile, Erdogan has remained defiant, denying accusations that he has been acting like a dictator. He has also rejected any possibility of an uprising in Turkey, arguing that these protesters do not represent the entire Turkish society.
Protests erupted in Istanbul on Friday after security forces attacked a peaceful four-day sit-in by
The tough police response to park protesters sparked mass anti-government demonstrations in nearly 50 other cities.
The harsh police response has drawn international condemnation with EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton condemning Turkish police for using disproportionate force against demonstrators.
Chaos and camaraderie in Istanbul ~ link ~ The excitement was contagious. At 14:00 we were standing on Dolmabahce Cadessi, the road leading to Taksim Square, a mere 2km (1.4 miles) away, in our best sandals and sun dresses, watching thousands and thousands of people pour into the streets.
The same repetitive chant, demanding Erdogan's resignation, could be heard all across the city - along with car horns, rioters hitting saucepans, pots and drums. It was exciting. Tour buses had been taken over, filled to the brim with rioters, and people waved their flags gleefully in the air.
But as we had lunch at a rooftop bar things started to get serious.
Disaffected Turks vow to remain on the streets of Istanbul - with video ~ link ~ Late at night, in a wealthy neighbourhood of Istanbul, women lean out of their apartment windows to clang their pots and pans as loudly as they can.
They wave Turkish flags and show their support for the demonstrators who've taken on the police, and taken over Taksim Square and Gezi Park. The clangs are joined by the beep of car horns. The noise echoes across the rooftops.
A few blocks away, demonstrators wander past the wreckage of trucks and cars. Several roads are blocked by makeshift barricades. Some protesters pose in front of a burnt-out police van.

Culture wars explode on Turkish streets ~ link ~ Women with headscarves and bearded men marched among the throng heading through Istanbul’s Besiktas district and heading for the central Taksim Square. But, as was the case with the still larger demonstration the day before, most of those attending were secular, younger Turks –
“We don’t think he is going to resign just because we want it,” said Berna, a PhD student wielding goggles to protect herself from teargas. “We know that we are the minority in this county now, but we want him to respect the minority as well.”

Israel fast-tracks development of Arrow III defense system over Iran's concerns ~ link ~ This won't work, and in fact, is a propaganda effort to convince the Israeli people that they are/will be safe. Already there are well over 100,000 missiles aimed at Israel. Even if America and France and Germany and the United Kingdom gave tiny Israel all their money they could not afford to have sufficient anti-missiles to defend against the ever-growing number of potential incoming missiles!!! It is far cheaper to build surface-to-surface missiles then anti-missile missiles. And remember, that even the best system has problems hitting a fast moving incoming ballistic missile. During the first Gulf War, we thought the Patriot anti-missiles had hit a number of Saddam's Scud-type guided missiles. But after the war, detailed studies showed that we most likely only hit ONE incoming missile. The "Scuds" were re-engineered by the Iraqis, for longer range, and the missile fuselage tended to break-up during final re-entry stages, which we mistook for a hit from one of the Patriots fired at it. Now days, the PAC III Patriots are much better but the kill ratio is still far far from one-to-one. In short, the Iranian/Syrian/Hezbollah missile arsenal can and will be able to overwhelm any Israeli defense. Stirling
Defense journal report shows plans to install four underground missile launchers at IAF's Tel Shahar base between Jerusalem and Ashdod; Israel has never officially revealed location of this base.
Israel prepares as War Clouds gather ~ link ~ Israel is the primary aggressor in the Middle East and World today! It is always Israel that is "preparing" for war, or striking one of its neighbors, or stealing more land from the Arabs, or bullying the poor people in Gaza/Palestine. Stirling
“I hope there’s a war,” says Ziv Peretz a father of two young children in the Golan town of Katzerin. “Then we can kill them all, finish them all off. I doubt anything will happen, because the Arabs know they will lose.”
Israel claims no S-300 missiles in Syria before 2014 ~ link ~ I suspect that this is Netanyahu government propaganda to calm the Israeli citizens down, so that he can jump start the war he wants so badly! Stirling
Iraq warns Israel on using airspace in Iran strike ~ link ~ Baghdad has warned Israel that it would respond to any attempts by the Jewish state to use Iraqi airspace for a strike against Iran's controversial nuclear programme, a top Iraqi minister told AFP.The remarks from Hussein al-Shahristani, deputy prime minister responsible for energy affairs, mark the first time a senior Iraqi official has publicly warned Israel against entering its airspace -- the most direct route -- to hit targets in Iran.
Israeli Arrow II "ready" for Syrian missiles - US Patriots for Jordan ~ link ~ This DEFKA article is part of a recent propaganda trend from Israel. They are trying to convince the Israeli people that they are protected from the 100,000+ guided missiles and rockets that Iran/Syria/Hizbollah have aimed at Israel. The truth is that they cannot stop much more than 10-20% of incoming rounds, which means that Israel and its citizens will be destroyed in the first day of a General Middle East War. Of course, Israel will shower the Middle East and perhaps Europe as well with nukes, but that will not save the Israel people. Dear old Bibi 666 Netanyahu is going to get a whole lot of people killed!!! Stirling
In Washington, Pentagon sources reported that the United States was sending Patriot missile defense systems and F-16 fighter jets to Jordan for the annual joint Eager Lion exercise between the two armies. The sources did not say whether the Patriots and fighter jets would withdraw after the two-month exercise. The US officials pointed out that the Patriots would not shield Jordan from Syrian Scuds, but were a demonstration of US support for the Hashemite kingdom.
