The United Nations has
accused the United States for failing to pursue cases of child sex
abuse among religious leaders and groups.
The Committee on the Rights of the Child released a report this month highlighting widespread sexual abuse committed by clerics and staff of religious institutions in America, along with a lack of measures “to properly investigate cases and prosecute them".
"The committee is deeply concerned at information of sexual abuse committed by clerics and leading members of certain faith-based organizations and religious institutions on a massive and long-term scale," the report said.
This comes as the American Catholic Church attempts to tackle an ongoing nationwide scandal over a pattern of covering-up allegations of sexual crimes committed by abusive priests.
Last week, Pope Benedict announced his resignation from his position, citing an inability to carry out his papal duties, while also apologizing for the widespread sexual abuse in the church, giving hope to those who seek to open Church files to help prosecute undiscovered cases of clerical sexual cruelty.
"We can only hope that his successor opens the secret files and treats victims with the respect they deserve," said Keith Porteous Wood, the director of the National Secular Society.
Sexual abuses in the Catholic Church arose in the 1980s and hit a major crisis in 2002 when systematic cover-ups were exposed.

An Australian TV
station has claimed that Israel secretly imprisoned an Australian Mossad
agent, known as prisoner X, over divulging secret Mossad missions.
ABC News said Ben Zygier was arrested since Israeli regime believed that he had informed Australia's security services of Mossad operations he was involved in, including a top-secret mission in Italy.
The Australian TV also said that Mossad spy agency had long been planning for the missions Zygier disclosed to Australia's security services.
On February 12, ABC channel reported that Israel’s so-called Prisoner X, who was found hanged in his prison cell with state-of-the-art surveillance systems in 2010, was an Australian national who had worked for Mossad for ten years.

An analyst says the
unfortunate situation in Bulgaria is due to decades of massive state
spending which has defied good economics and devastated the country’s
financial system past the point of no return.
The comment comes as several thousand people took to the streets across Bulgaria on Tuesday to protest against the right-wing government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
Earlier on Monday, Bulgaria's unpopular finance minister, Simeon Djankov, was removed from office after protests over high electricity bills snowballed into anti-government demonstrations.
"We've lived through communism and remember the personality cult towards (the dictator) Todor Zhivkov. But what we have now surpasses it -- it's Boyko for breakfast, Boyko for lunch, Boyko for dinner, while people don't have anything to eat. We're fed up," a protester was quoted as saying.

Greek media have gone on a 24-hour strike on Tuesday just as French
President Francois Hollande pays a visit to the debt-riddled country.
The move paves the way for a bigger austerity protest, a general strike
set for Wednesday.
Journalists are among those Greeks protesting the austerity measures,
growing unemployment and reducing wages that are gripping the country.
TV and radio stations, newspapers, and even news websites are
participating in the stoppage, reporting no news on Tuesday.
Journalists from state media are taking part in what Government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou called a “news blackout”
