For the second year in a row, President Barack Obama has signed into
law a Pentagon funding bill that allows for the indefinite military
detention of anyone, including American citizens, without charges, while
barring the shutdown of the Guantanamo Bay prison camp.
The legislation’s provisions underscore the link between the eruption of American militarism abroad and the lurch toward police-state measures at home.

Peerages and styles and titles of the Royal Family ~ link ~ I surrendered my Scottish titles and honours to the Queen conditional on a Re-grant to eliminate the sexist rules of male only succession. This has not been given or even responded to in writing and I have told the Palace that I am preparing to bring a very substantial lawsuit against the Queen personally and her private assets, under Human Rights Violation laws in a foreign nation having Universal Human Rights Jurisdiction over foreign Heads of State/etc. Nothing gets done on peerage matters/claims/etc. unless you "donate" a very large sum of money to the right people. That crap is what brought Phony Tony Blair down with the Cash for Peerages Scandal. I am now 62 years old and I have never given or taken a bribe and I damn well don't intend to start now! This will eventually bring considerable embarrassment to the Queen and will involve showing the contempt that the London authorities have for Scots law/tradition/heritage, all at a time when the citizens of Scotland are considering breaking away from England and the United Kingdom. It has not been my desire to cause problems, and I have waited until after the 2012 Jubilee Year, but I do insist that the authorities, including the Queen, follow Scots Peerage Law in my case and do so without my "donating" a million or so pounds to the right people. With the Succession the Crown Bill 2013 I envisage a serious shake-up of styles and titles associated with the royal family.
Clearly the Letters Patent of George V (1917) must now be revised. If the succession to the Crown is now gender blind then surely all future peerages awarded to children of the Sovereign should be similarly entailed.
We are told that the Earl of Wessex will be created Duke of Edinburgh on his brother's accession. The eldest child of the Earl and Countess of Wessex is a daughter, Lady Louise Windsor. The Letters Patent of the Earldom of Wessex and Viscounctcy of Severn state that the peerages will pass to the heirs male of the Wessexes, lawfully begotten, and the son, James, styled Viscount Severn, will on his father's death succeed.
The future Dukedom of Edinburgh (with some subsidiary peerages) should be created with a nod to the new Act and the Letters Patent should, like the new act, be 'gender blind' and state that the peerage will pass to heirs of whatever sex in order of birth. With the death of Prince Edward his Dukedom of Edinburgh would pass to his eldest child, Lady Louise Windsor, and the Earldom of Wessex and Viscountcy of Severn would be inherited by his younger child, James.
If all children of the Sovereign are to be regarded as equal under the law then surely this should also apply to grandchildren of the Sovereign? Children of a future daughter of a Sovereign should be of equal rank to the children of the sons of the Sovereign.

Firearms Policy Coalition, a new project of renowned Second Amendment
rights advocacy organizations Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep
and Bear Arms, California Association of Federal Firearms Licensees,
Second Amendment Foundation, and The Calguns Foundation has been
launched, noted managing director Brandon Combs.
The Coalition’s website, firearmspolicy.org, was opened to the public in late December 2012.
The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) provides for an effective,
NATO-like response to gun control campaigns and efficient, low-friction
advocacy of litigation, legislation, education, and grassroots efforts
that advance Second Amendment rights. Of the Coalition, Second Amendment
Foundation Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb said, “I’m proud to
help usher in the next generation of gun rights activism. The new
paradigm is, and must be, coordination, mutual-support, and unity. Those
who would disarm America’s law-abiding people are rabid in their desire

The Philadelphia School District has recently announced plans to
shutter 37 public schools by the end of June. The district operates
roughly 225 schools overall, meaning that the closure plan will
effectively eliminate one out of every six schools in the city, with
certain zip codes being effectively removed from the school system. The
magnitude and character of this plan is without precedent in the history
of the city.
Announcing the plan during a news conference, District Superintendent
William R. Hite, Jr. said the city faced a “historic moment” that would
be accompanied by “tremendous controversy, angst, and emotions.” In
all, the move would impact 17,000 students and 1,100 teachers, primarily
within the most impoverished areas of the city.
65 Percent of Americans believe that 2013 will be a Year of Economic Difficulty ~ link ~ Do you believe that economic trouble is coming in 2013? If so, you
have a lot of company. According to a brand new Gallup poll that was
just released, 65 percent of Americans believe that 2013 will be a year of "economic difficulty" while only 33 percent
of Americans believe that 2013 will be a year of "economic
prosperity". Gallup has been asking this question for a lot of years,
and the percentage of Americans that are anticipating economic
difficulty in the year ahead has not been this high since the early
1980s. And without a doubt, there are a whole lot of reasons
to be deeply concerned about the economy as we head into the new year.
But it isn't just 2013 that Americans are pessimistic about. According
to the new Gallup poll, 50 percent of all Americans believe that the best days of America are behind us, and only 47 percent
of all Americans believe that the best days of America are ahead of
us. Those are very sobering numbers. Half the country believes that it
is only downhill from here for the United States. Unfortunately, they
are exactly right. Things are rapidly going to get worse for our
economy and for our nation as a whole. We are going to start reaping
the consequences of decades of very foolish decisions, and the pain is
going to be immense.
