Thanks be to God that we have a ceasefire in Gaza and Israel.  Thursday is Thanksgiving Day in America and I am reducing the coverage on my news blog the next four days due to the holiday.   Have a Happy Thanksgiving.  Tim Earl of Stirling   

Israel-Hamas ceasefire comes into effect in Gaza - with video ~ link ~ Under the deal, Israel has agreed to end all hostilities and targeted killings, while Hamas will stop attacks against Israel and along the border.

At least 157 people have died since the flare-up of violence began last week.

Both sides continued to fire on each other as the 21:00 (19:00 GMT) ceasefire deadline approached, but no major breaches have been reported.

Egypt announces Hamas-Israel ceasefire - Netanyahu's office confirms - with video ~ link ~

Egypt's foreign minister announced Wednesday that a ceasefire would begin in Gaza at 19:00 GMT. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that a deal had been reached.

 

The truce announcement was made by Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Amr during a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

 

 

 

Greece: Lack of deal 'threatens Euro' ~ link ~ The failure of eurozone ministers to reach a deal to give Greece its latest bailout payment threatens the whole bloc, leaders have said.

Following nearly 12 hours of talks in Brussels, the Eurogroup said it needed more time for technical work. Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said: "It's not only the future of our country, but the stability of the entire eurozone [that is at stake]." 

Greeks protest against government austerity measures ~ link ~ Greek civil servants have taken to the streets to protest against Greece’s newly proposed austerity measures to lay off workers.

On Tuesday, thousands of Greeks joined the protesters, who walked off their jobs amid the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) call on Athens to slash 22,000 more jobs in order to get a bailout loan.

UK Winter Wheat shows worst fungus symptoms ever recorded ~ link ~ Winter wheat in the U.K., which had its wettest summer in a century this year, showed the worst-ever symptoms in the current season of fungal diseases fusarium ear blight and septoria tritici, CropMonitor said.

There was a “marked increase” in ear blight, with 96 percent of field samples displaying symptoms, the crop-quality service said in a report e-mailed today. Some types of fusarium can result in yield losses or the development of mycotoxins, chemicals that can harm humans and animals, according to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board. 

Wiretapping the Web ~ link ~ New eavesdropping technology could allow government agencies to 'silently record' conversations on internet chat services like Skype in real time.

Until now, so called voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services have been difficult for police to tap into, because of the way they send information over the web. The services convert analogue audio signals into digital data packets, which are then sent in a way that is costly and complex for third parties to intercept.

Obama may shirt Congress to ban semiautomatics - with video ~ link ~ “Under this scenario, semiautomatics and high capacity magazines could be acquired only with great difficulty and at great expense by America’s estimated 100 million law-abiding firearms owners.”

“The Obama gang probably realizes it would have a possibly insurmountable difficulty getting a semi auto ban, such as that considered by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and others, through Congress,” Snyder noted. “Congressional Second Amendment supporters already are preparing for such a battle. During the Clinton years, Congress enacted a partial, temporary semiauto ban but allowed it to sunset after 10 years because of its lack of significant negative impact on crime. The Obama administration now may order the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to take the classification step. Some gun-grabbers view the designation of Street Sweeper shotguns as Title 2 firearms during the Clinton administration as precedent for such a move.
