It appears that there will be a truce going into effect tonight, Gaza time.  Let's pray and hope that it works.  The major western powers (US, UK, France, Germany) made it clear to Netanyahu that they opposed an invasion of Gaza.   Stirling    

Egypt claims raids to end - Death toll 121 in Gaza ~ link ~ Fresh exchange of fire between Israel and Hamas continued unabated amid intensified international diplomatic efforts, with Egypt saying that Israeli “aggression” would end today, as a week of incessant raids claimed at least 121 Palestinian lives.

A loud boom was heard in Jerusalem with the Israeli police and army saying a rocket had crashed into an open area near Gush Etzion. No casualties were reported.

An Israeli airstrike on Gaza City today killed at least five people and took the death toll of Palestinians to 121. Eleven Hamas rockets came flying into the Israeli city of Beer Sheva, causing casualties. More than 30 rockets were fired into the area today, but most were destroyed by Iron Dome interceptors. Israel's air force dropped leaflets across Gaza City that asked people to evacuate their homes “immediately”.

Gaza Crisis: Israel to end attacks says Egypt's Mursi ~ link ~  Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi, who is leading mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel, says he expects Israel to end attacks on Gaza shortly.

A Hamas spokesman told the BBC a truce would come into effect late on Tuesday, following six days of Israeli air strikes and rocket attacks from Gaza.

Israel says it has put plans for a land invasion of Gaza on hold. But it has also told villagers in north, south and east of Gaza to move to central areas for their own safety.

However, President Morsi did not provide any evidence or cite any sources to support his assertions.

Breaking the filibuster: Russia to propose UN resolution on Gaza crisis ~ link ~  Russia is ready to propose a full resolution aimed at stopping the violence between Israel and Gaza if the West continues to “filibuster” the UN Security Council statement on the crisis. 

“Russia is ready… to submit a draft resolution focusing on three key components,” Russia’s envoy to the UN, Vitaly Churkin told the UN Security Council during consultations on the Gaza conflict arranged at Russia’s initiative.

Morocco proposed a statement calling for a halt to the hostilities last Thursday and since then diplomats have had enough time to present their amendments in writing, Churkin said. “The fact that they introduced these amendments orally… after three days of having the Moroccan text at their disposal, they could, at least, have prepared their amendments in writing,” he said. “To me it unfortunately looks like a little bit of a filibuster attempt.”

You can find out how frequently a thunderous explosion would strike nearby if you were in a densely populated area of Gaza - roughly every fifteen minutes. That's four times an hour you would narrowly miss death, without even leaving your house. You could work out how much sleep it's possible to get with that on your mind. You can find out from Paul Danahar of the BBC that half of the casualties taken to Shifa hospital from the last aerial attack in the north of Gaza city are children - but ironically not from the BBC. You have to look at his Twitter account to find this out. You can find out how Palestinians are coping - families of seven moving into single rooms, avoiding exposure as far as possible, huddling together for an illusory sense of security, waiting to see if they'll be the next smoking crater with an English-speaking journalist standing next to it. Not a single UK broadcaster will tell you this, but you can find out.

Some are so badly hurt they won't survive. Civilians are willfully targeted. Over half of Al Shifa Hospital casualties are children and infants. Medical staff are hard-pressed. They can't properly handle the growing case load.

Vital medications and other supplies are being exhausted. What's enough for a week or longer is consumed in a few hours. If conflict persists, treating seriously injured patients won't be possible.

This is the time of the year when Americans run out to their favorite retail stores and fill up their shopping carts with lots of cheap plastic crap made by workers in foreign countries where it is legal to pay slave labor wages.  By doing this, the American people are actively participating in the destruction of the U.S. economy.  You see, buying products that are made in America is not just a matter of national pride.  It is a matter of national survival.  If we do not support American workers, they are going to continue to see their jobs shipped out of the country.  If we do not support American businesses, they are going to continue to die off at a staggering rate.  Last year, the United States had a trade deficit with the rest of the world of 558 billion dollars.  More than half a trillion dollars that could have gone into the pockets of U.S. workers and U.S. businesses went overseas instead.  If that money had stayed in the country, taxes would have been paid on that mountain of cash and our local, state and federal government debt problems would not be as severe.  As a result of our massive trade imbalance, we have lost tens of thousands of businesses, millions of jobs and trillions of dollars of national wealth.  Both major political parties have sold us out on these issues, and we are getting poorer as a nation with each passing day.  We desperately need a resurgence of economic patriotism in the United States before it is too late.

Yes, I know that it is very tempting to buy foreign-made products.  After all, they are almost always cheaper.

But most people don't often think about why they are cheaper.

Unfortunately, in the name of "free trade" American workers have been merged into a global labor pool where they have to compete directly for jobs with workers on the other side of the globe that live in countries where it is legal to pay slave labor wages.  This makes employing American workers a tremendous liability.

If a company hires you and pays you 10 to 15 dollars an hour with benefits, how is it going to compete with another company that pays workers a dollar an hour with no benefits on the other side of the planet?
