The Hell with Israel - End the Siege of Gaza ~ link ~ President Obama should muster the courage and shows his good
will toward Israel and the Palestinians, end the siege of Gaza, and put
an end to the cycle of violence by allowing America and NATO to manage
and operate the port making sure people in and out of Gaza,
constructions materials, food suppliers and consumers goods comes
through the port, with a staging area in Cyprus under a joint US/NATO
and with a secure sea corridor between Gaza and Cyprus. As long as the
people of Gaza are held hostage, imprisoned, under siege, Israel will
not have the safety and security is wants and seek.
Netanyahu's Extremely Risky Gamble - with photos ~ link ~ Just a few hours before the launch of the deadly offensive against
military targets and Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in his favorite place: in front of live
television cameras. On Wednesday evening, he addressed the Israeli
people with direct, aggressive words. "Today, we relayed a clear message
to the Hamas organization and other terrorist organizations," he said.
"If there is a need, the military is prepared to expand the operation."
Defense Minister Ehud Barak also addressed reporters, saying that Hamas'
"consistent provocation in recent weeks … forced our hand into acting
with both precision and decisiveness."
Israel’s criminal and ongoing war on the people of Gaza is met with
muted response in Western capitals with ministers and heads of states
justifying the killings in Gaza while denying the right of the people of
Gaza to defend themselves. It seems even the least intelligent persons
in power in the West forget the cycle of violence is rooted in the
illegal and criminal siege of Gaza by Israel.
It has been 4 years since Israel ended its Operation Cast Lead on
Gaza, cheered on by Israelis and American Jews in major US cities and
cheered on by George Bush and Condi Rice. It has been 3 years since the
Gaza Donor Conference concluded in the City of Sharm El-Sheik. The
conference attended by more than 70 countries, pledging more than $5
Billions exceeding any and all expectation. Of course this sum of money
and the US pledge of $300 millions is dwarfed by the $30 Billions George
Bush pledge to Israel in arms and weapons. Since that time, Israel made
sure nothing happens and that Gaza and the more than 1.5 million
Palestinians remain hostage and prisoner of Israel arrogance and
defiance. Not even the US is able to do any thing about it.
Egypt torn between allies in Gaza and treaty with Israel ~ link ~ The Egyptians in the street are NOT torn, nor are most of the officers and enlisted men of the armed forces...their support clearly lies with their Arab brothers and sisters in Gaza. This support will only increase in the days ahead as another Operation Cast Lead kills more and more Arab children and older civilians. Stirling
The dual appearance seems to betray the motives behind the most recent
attacks. "When the cannons roar, we see only Netanyahu and Barak on the
screen, and all the other politicians have to applaud them," wrote the
daily Haaretz in a commentary published Thursday. "The
assassination of (Hamas' top military commander Ahmed) Jabari will go
down in history as another showy military action initiated by an
outgoing government on the eve of an election."
Israeli officials talk long war in Gaza and prepare invasion ~ link ~ Israeli officials have condemned Hamas for retaliating against their
attacks, with Benjamin Netanyahu terming the retaliation a “double war
crime.” Officials say if Hamas continues to retaliate they will consider
a ground invasion, but others have suggested they will keep launching
air strikes whether Hamas reacts or not, and it seems increasingly that
the timing of the ground invasion is just a question of getting
reservists and other troops into the area, with a decision likely
already made.
Indeed, one can conclude that the most recent offensive against militants in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip
-- which started Wednesday with the killing of Jabari -- has been
conceived as more of a show fight for the Israeli public than the
beginning of a decisive battle.

The death toll of the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip continues to rise
today, with Israeli officials promising a protracted offensive and
patting themselves on the back for doing so. And while the war started
with the assassination of a Hamas military leader, the more recent
deaths suggest the strikes are having a big impact on Gaza’s civilian
population.
Marwan Abu El Qumsan, a teacher at a UN school, is among the victims, and the UN has had to close its schools because of the growing attacks. Children were also the victims of Israeli attacks, including the 11-month-old son of BBC editor Jihad Misharawi.
The 2008-09 Israeli invasion killed 1,417 people, with the
overwhelming majority innocent civilians. Israeli officials have since
touted it as a model of “deterrence” and have been talking up a repeat
performance ever since. They say that this war’s goals are identical.
It seems that repeat may begin soon, as there is little to no momentum
coming from the international community to calm the situation down, with
Western officials mostly reiterating that they support Israel.
