Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan’s talks with Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Thursday, March 29 were closed to the press, but a statement published on Khamenei's official website said he told Erdoğan that Iran strongly opposes any foreign intervention in Syria's conflict and will defend Damascus so that it can continue to be a center of “resistance” against Israel.
 

Twelve hours later, Iran’s Lebanese stooge, Hizballah’s Hassan Nasrallah, interrupted his Friday night sermon to declare triumphantly: “The die in Syria is cast. Talk of military intervention is over. There is no more talk about arming the opposition or about toppling the regime!”

Syrian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Jihad Makdisi says efforts to overthrow the government of President Bashar al-Assad by armed terrorist groups is over once and for all.

Makdisi said on Friday that the battle is now to secure stability in the country and a move has begun towards a renewed Syria through development and reform.

"The presence of the Syrian Arab Army in Syrian cities is for defensive purposes as to protect the civilians, of whom large numbers are taken as hostages to strike against the stability of the country. Once peace and security prevail, the Army is to pull out,'' SANA news agency quoted the official as saying.

Reuters is reporting that Uruguay, South America's leading rice exporter and the 7th largest rice exporter in the world, is seeking to barter "food for oil" with Iran to get around U.S. and EU sanctions.

Because of the tough sanctions which have targeted financial institutions from doing transactions with Iran, this type of barter deal eliminates the need for financing or currency exchanging hands.  Iran is historically a large purchaser of Uruguayan rice, and Uruguay agriculture officials announced that they intend to keep that business.

The briber and the bribed act as individuals.

In the United States, corruption occurs at the level of policy and contracts, between corporations, special interests, and Congress. It is done gracefully and usually legally. For example, Big Pharma pays Congress to insert, in some voluminous bill that almost no one will read, a clause saying that the government will pay list price for drugs instead of negotiating for a better price. Over time, this is worth hundreds of millions, paid by you. Yet the clause is legal. Or military industry pays Congress to buy an enormously expensive and unneeded airplane. It’s legal. Read the bill. Or agribusiness pays Congress to cough up large subsidies. Also legal.

It was reported not too long ago that the Food and Drug Administration would make a decision on the banning of the endocrine-disrupting chemical bisphenol-A (BPA). Now, the agency has finally come to a decision, and unsurprisingly, it has decided that there is not enough scientific evidence supporting for the ban of BPA – that is to say, BPA will not be banned from use in food products, plastic packaging, and personal care products.

On Friday the agency made the decision due to lack of scientific evidence to justify the new restrictions, despite tons of evidence showcasing BPAs dangers. The FDA’s problem? Much of the research was performed using mice, and so they claimed that the findings don’t relate to humans.
