Iran strike would be 'catastrophic' says Putin ~ link ~ Russia is troubled by the growing threat of a military strike on
Iran, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Monday, adding that fear of
foreign intervention pushes other “nuclear threshold” states to acquire
nuclear weapons, rather than dissuading them.

Preparing for escalation? Security officials are taking the threat of long-range rockets being fired at central Israel
from the Gaza Strip seriously, and have decided to hold a drill to prepare for such scenario.
The exercise, to be held in the Tel Aviv area next month, will simulate rocket attacks on central Israel that are not undertaken in the framework of an all-out regional war, unlike previous missile drills.
EU imposes new sanctions on Syrian regime ~ link ~
European foreign ministers increased the pressure Monday on Syria's regime to stop its crackdown on opponents, freezing the assets of several Syrian government officials and imposing sanctions on the country's central bank.
They also banned the purchase of gold, precious metals and diamonds from the country, and banned Syrian cargo flights from the European Union.
US eyes V-22 Osprey aircraft sales to Israel and UAE ~ link ~ The Osprey has a very high maintenance per hour requirement...it has VTOL capability but it is one expensive plane to maintain. There were other VTOL solutions, 25 years ago, but politics cause the selection of the V-22. I was involved in VTOL technology at the time as a consultant. Stirling
Bell Helicopter, a unit of Textron Inc, and Boeing issued a news release in December after the Dubai air show, saying the aircraft had received "significant interest" from potential customers, but it did not identify them.
Boeing and Bell have been trying to generate foreign interest for years, but potential buyers were holding back to see how the plane did in combat, and because of the relatively high price of buying and operating the plane – both of which are now coming down.

Putin defended a Russia-China veto of a U.N. resolution
condemning Assad's crackdown on protests, saying that Moscow wouldn't
allow the replay of what happened in Libya, where a NATO air campaign
helped Libyans end Moammar Gadhafi's regime. He also warned strongly against any attack on Iran, saying its consequences would be "catastrophic."
Syria: The Middle East's Tipping Point ~ link ~ With the recent developments, the façade has tumbled down disclosing the
real goals hidden behind different masks, revealing that the slogans
demanding freedom, democracy, and human rights have been used as a
battering-ram by the advocates for an intervention to break Syria. The
objective seems clear: depriving the country of its role and the Syrian
people of their will.
The Western goal for Syria, and the broader Middle East, is to
progressively consolidate its control of the region. The so-called “War
on Terror” that began after 9/11 is an expression of this desire to
co-op the Middle East, as are the occupation of Afghanistan, the fall of
Baghdad in 2003, the Israeli war with Lebanon in 2006, and, finally,
the Israeli attack on Gaza at the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009.
The United States, however, faced resistance and opposition movements.

Syria’s Interior Minister has announced that 89 per cent of those who
took part in the referendum have voted in favor of a new constitution.
The new law puts an end to five decades of one-party rule among other
reforms put forward by President Assad.
Interior Minister Ibrahim al-Shaar announced the results of the referendum at a press conference on Monday. According
to the minister, out of 14,580,000 Syrians eligible to vote some
8,376,000, or about 57 per cent, actually came to the polling stations
and voted, RT’s Maria Finoshina reports from Damascus.

decades of Ba'ath party rule by allowing political pluralism, it will
also enact a presidential limit of two seven-year terms.

Damascus has pledged multi-party parliamentary elections within three months.
The new constitution is part of the reforms plans promised by President Bashar al-Assad.

US armed Israel for Iran attack ~ link ~ Israeli officials have recently ramped
up their war rhetoric, threatening Iran with military strikes in case
the US-engineered sanctions against the country fail to force Tehran
into abandoning its civilian nuclear energy program.
The United States, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program, using this pretext to impose sanctions against Iran and threaten the country with military attack.
This is while the International Atomic Energy Agency has never found any evidence indicating that Tehran's nuclear energy program has been diverted towards nuclear weapons production.

Russia upgrades Syrian-based electronic station to warn Iran of US/Iran attack ~ link ~ According to our sources, the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral
Kutznetsov’s stay at the Syrian port of Tartus through most of January
and up to mid-February had the special mission of keeping an eye out for
any Israeli preparations for attacking Iran, Syria or Hizballah. It
filled the gap left by the Russian station south of Damascus which was
fully occupied with feeding data on Syrian opposition movements to
Bashar Assad and watching out for signs of foreign intervention,
military or covert, against his regime.
After expanding and upgrading their range to meet Iranian needs by
interconnecting the two stations and adding extra Russian manpower,
Moscow ordered the Admiral Kutznetsov to depart Tartus on Feb. 13 and
sail to home port at Severomorsk on the Kola Peninsula. The Russian
stations in Syria and Lebanon were by then ready for their expanded
missions.Putin assassination plot foiled - with video ~ link ~
