Blast kills 25 injures dozens in Damascus ~ link ~ More sliding into a General Middle East War!  Every day now, the tempo increases!   Stirling

Japan mulls joining South Korea in ignoring US ban on Iranian oil ~ link ~ Both Japan and South Korea are among the top ten purchasers of Iranian oil.   They need the oil to keep their nations going!   Stirling

Meanwhile, in the Persian Gulf ~ link ~ While Americans are distracted by the political puppet show (Republican Party presidential nomination race), events are unfolding rapidly in the Gulf.  Will Americans soon wake up to either a totally crashed global economy (the Greatest Depression) and/or to World War III soon?  Much the same can be said for Europeans, only the distraction is the Eurozone crisis.  Stirling

With all eyes focused on Iowa, what is happening in the Persian Gulf escapes most everyone’s notice. The babble of competing voices – the nattering nabobs of the mainstream media, the “spin”-doctors, the lobbyists and special interests currently inundating the airwaves with propaganda – drowns out everything else. Nothing short of a major terrorist attack could possibly compete with the Iowa story – and yet what happens in the Gulf, or doesn’t happen, will reshape the American political landscape and may well determine the course of the presidential election.

By all means, enjoy the Iowa circus: I certainly am having fun with it. What makes it a Circus Macabre, however, is that it takes place in the shadow of a looming catastrophe: the advent of World War III, and the onset of a second Great Depression.

Speculation swirls over Erdogan's health ~ link ~ The Turkish leader joins several South American leaders who have cancer...strange isn't it!   Stirling

Speculation is mounting that Recep Tayyip Erdogan has cancer, and political jostling has already begun in Ankara to replace the rabble-rousing prime minister who is Turkey’s most popular leader since Kemal Ataturk.

Last month Turkish media revealed that Erdogan had had stomach surgery the month before – the reports said doctors had removed polyps from his intestines, but found no traces of cancer.

Iran announces ANOTHER major naval 'war game' in Persian Gulf ~ link ~ Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy is set to hold a major military maneuver in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz in February, a senior IRGC commander says.

IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said Thursday that the maneuver, 7th in a series of drills dubbed the Great Prophet, will be different compared to previous exercises held by the IRGC.

Turkey 'Ergenekon plot' - Just retired Chief of Armed Forces arrested ~ link ~  The plots and counter-plots in Turkey are thick and all are a key part of the unfolding nightmare in the Middle East.  With the announcement, yesterday, that Turkey will NOT allow its soil to be used for a war against Iran, one needs to ask the question, "Did Iran (and/or Russia and/or China) just buy Turkey off"???   Stirling

A former head of the Turkish armed forces has been remanded in custody to face charges over an alleged plot to overthrow the government.

Gen Ilker Basbug, who retired in 2010, is the highest-ranking officer to be caught up in a widening probe into the so-called Ergenekon network.
