Pentagon 'prepared': US set for Operation Iranian Freedom? ~ link ~ Washington is prepared to engage in war over the Strait of Hormuz at any moment, the Pentagon says. Some observers say the dangerous move is being viewed as a far from worst-case scenario in America, especially by its hawks.

American troops in the Persian Gulf region do not require any build-up for a possible military conflict with Iran, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Wednesday. "We are not making any special steps at this point in order to deal with the situation. Why? Because, frankly, we are fully prepared to deal with that situation now," Panetta explained.

Russia slams push for war against Iran ~ link ~ Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has criticized certain world powers for pushing for war against Iran, lauding Tehran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In a meeting with Undersecretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Baqeri in Moscow, Lavrov said Moscow was prepared to help ensure the success of the upcoming talks between Tehran and the P5+1 -- Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany.

Russia will stand firm with China on Syria ~ link ~
Russia will offer Washington no explanation for arms deliveries to Syria and together with China will prevent the U.N. Security Council from approving any military intervention in the conflict-torn nation, its foreign minister said on Wednesday.

Using his annual news conference to draw lines in the sand on Syria, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said veto-holding Security Council members Russia and China would stand firm against foreign intervention.

Major powers set to disclose terms for Iran nuclear talks ~ link ~ The major powers seeking to negotiate an end to Iran's suspected pursuit of nuclear weapons are expected to issue documents on Friday laying out what Tehran would need to do return to talks, a diplomat said.

A statement by Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States would be the latest signal the diplomatic path remains open to Iran despite tougher sanctions and renewed speculation of a military strike on its nuclear facilities.

Sarkozy: War on Iran will unleash chaos ~ link ~ "A military intervention would not solve the problem [of Iran's nuclear program] but would trigger war and chaos in the Middle East and maybe the world," Sarkozy warned during his annual New Year's address to diplomats in Paris, Ha'aretz reported on Friday.

EU still divided on Iran oil sanctions ~ link ~ It appears that not everybody is so corrupt that they are blind to the real dangers to the human race of provoking a General Middle East War and World War III.   Stirling

EU countries still remain divided over several issues-- primarily the length of a planned grace period that would allow states heavily dependent on Iranian oil to fulfill existing contracts for a period after the ban comes into force.

Some EU members are seeking grace periods of between one and 12 months to allow them to find alternative supplies. Greece, which depends heavily on Iranian crude, is pushing for the longest delay while Britain, France, the Netherlands and Germany say they need a maximum period of three months.

The EU governments will be prohibited from making new contracts with Iran from the time the embargo is imposed, but can purchase previously contracted crude. This exemption would end on July 1, 2012.

The EU is expected to hold its summit meeting later this month on January 23, which will also focus on proposed embargo on Iran's oil exports.

European diplomats maintain that given the critical economic conditions facing EU member countries, it may take months before sanctions actually enter into force.

EU countries buy about 500,000 barrels per day of Iran's oil, making the Union one of the largest markets for Iranian crude.

US Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff in Israel to hammer out Iran strategy ~ link ~ Or last minute war preparations, catering to the "tail" that wags the dog.   This is all about the globalists and the most extreme Zionists.  There is NO NEED for a war with Iran and Syria...NONE...and every reason to avoid such a war...but the war whores cannot see that.   Stirling

US Army General Martin Dempsey is currently visiting Israel amid heightened tensions with Iran. Israel is pushing for tougher measures, and the US fears the Jewish state may be considering military action.

This is General Dempsey’s first visit to the country since he was appointed chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff four months ago. He is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, military chief of staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz and President Shimon Peres. The Iranian nuclear program is expected to be a top issue on the table, and Israeli officials involved in preparing for the meetings told AP they expected Dempsey to urge restraint as the US tries to rally additional international pressure on Iran.

US and NATO are on the march worldwide - Part III ~ linkGeopolitical developments continue at a pace that likely makes most peoples’ heads spin, and for good reason.

With the situation in Syria, the push for war with Iran and the global growth of NATO control, it appears we are in truly volatile and historic times.

The confrontation between the West and Russia over the missile shield in Europe and Turkey only continues to get more heated, especially with the Russian announcement of new radar systems. The fact that Russia is also butting heads with the West over Syria definitely does not help defuse the situation.

Pakistan Foreign Minister: Ties with US 'On Hold' ~ link ~America’s relationship with Pakistan has been worsening throughout the past several months, taking a major hit early last year with the arrest of US “consulate employee” Raymond Davis on murder charges. Davis later turned out to be a top CIA official deployed in the nation without the Pakistani government’s knowledge.

In other comments, Khar also warned Secretary of State Hillary Clinton against any future US air raids into the nation. She cautioned that Pakistan still reserves the right to shoot down US warplanes violating their airspace.

Bush's CIA and NSA Director: We determined that attacking Iran was a bad idea ~ link Hayden's comments track closely with the argument made by Colin Kahl, the recently departed head of Middle East policy at the Pentagon, who opposed a military strike on Iran in an article this week in Foreign Affairs. "Even if a U.S. strike went as well ... there is little guarantee that it would produce lasting results," Kahl wrote. "[I]f Iran did attempt to restart its nuclear program after an attack, it would be much more difficult for the United States to stop it."

Hezbollah has long-range surface-to-air missiles ~ link While Hezbollah is known to have a large quantity of shoulder- launched anti-aircraft missiles, the IDF now assumes that the Lebanese Islamist group has received the SA-8, a truck-mounted Russian tactical surface- to-air missile system reported to have a range of 30 kilometers.

In addition to the possible transfer of air-defense systems, Hezbollah is also believed to have received several dozen more M600 long-range missiles, as well as additional 302 mm. Khaibar-1 rockets, which have a range of about 100 kilometers.

Russia warns that Iran strike could trigger 'chain reaction' ~ link ~Russia strongly criticised Western belligerence towards Syria and Iran yesterday, saying that a military assault on the Iranian regime could cause a "chain reaction" that would destabilise the entire world. The country's Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, also said during his annual televised press conference that Russia would use its veto at the UN Security Council to block any resolution calling for military force to be used against Syria. Mr Lavrov said that Russia is "seriously worried" that military action against Iran may be under consideration, and vowed that Moscow would do all it could to prevent it. "The consequences will be extremely grave," he said. "It's not going to be an easy walk. It will trigger a chain reaction and I don't know where it will stop."

Warning Signs that we should prepare for the worst (economically) ~ link ~ The warning signs are all around us.  All we have to do is open up our eyes and look at them.  Almost every single day there are more prominent voices in the financial world telling us that a massive economic crisis is coming and that we need to prepare for the worst.  On Wednesday, it was the World Bank itself that issued a very chilling warning.  In an absolutely startling report, the World Bank revised GDP growth estimates for 2012 downward very sharply, warned that Europe could be on the verge of a devastating financial crisis, and declared that the rest of the world better "prepare for the worst."  You would expect to hear this kind of thing on The Economic Collapse Blog, but this is not the kind of language that you would normally expect to hear from the stuffed suits at the World Bank.  Obviously things have gotten bad enough that nobody is even really trying to deny it anymore.  Andrew Burns, the lead author of the report, said that if the sovereign debt crisis gets even worse we could be looking at an economic crisis that could be even worse than the last one: "An escalation of the crisis would spare no-one. Developed- and developing-country growth rates could fall by as much or more than in 2008/09."  Burns also stated that the "importance of contingency planning cannot be stressed enough."  In other words, Burns is saying that it is time to prepare for the worst.  So are you ready?

But of course it isn't just the World Bank that is warning about these things.  The chorus of voices that is warning about the next great financial crisis just seems to grow by the day.

17 Facts about the Decline of the US auto industry that are almost too crazy to believe ~ link ~ Very few things illustrate how dramatically America has been deindustrialized than the stunning decline of the U.S. auto industry.  Once upon a time, the United States literally taught the rest of the world how to make cars.  We were the ones that invented the assembly line.  We were the ones that showed the rest of the world what mass production could do for an economy.  For decades, we produced more cars than anyone else and we sold more cars than anyone else.  Detroit was known as "the Motor City" and our manufacturing prowess dominated the planet.  But now all of that has changed.  Japan makes far more vehicles than we do today.  So does Germany.  As you read this, state of the art production facilities are going up all over China.  Meanwhile, the U.S. auto industry continues to rot and thousands upon thousands of good automotive jobs continue to leave our shores.  The rest of the world is making cars better than we are, they are making them cheaper than we are and they really don't care that many of our formerly great manufacturing cities are turning into rotting, stinking hellholes.  The U.S. auto industry was once a symbol of American dominance, but now it is just a symbol of American decline.  If we want to remain a great nation, then we need to start becoming great at making things once again.

The following are 17 facts about the decline of the U.S. auto industry that are almost too crazy to believe....

SOPA IS DEAD: Smith pulls the bill ~ link ~ Lamar Smith, the chief sponsor of SOPA, said on Friday that he is pulling the bill “until there is wider agreement on a solution.”

“I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy,” Smith (R-Texas) said. “It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products.”

INTERNET WINS: Votes on PIPA/SOPA indefinitely postponed ~ link ~ See the public can win if they get off their collective butts.   We are many ... they are few!   Stirling

After vowing to move forward with votes on controversial anti-piracy legislation, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) both announced Friday that the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)  had been postponed indefinitely.

“There is no reason that the legitimate issues raised by many about this bill cannot be resolved,” the Nevada senator explained in a prepared statement. “Counterfeiting and piracy cost the American economy billions of dollars and thousands of jobs each year, with the movie industry alone supporting over 2.2 million jobs.

SOPA and PIPA - Part of effort to "domesticate" politically incorrect Internet ~ link ~  Evil bastards always hate the truth.   Stirling

Why SOPA is Dangerous ~ link ~ I’m sure you’ve heard by now that SOPA is bad and would ruin the Internet, but have you actually read the bill? If not, it’s worth reading, for two reasons. First, if you are going to oppose a bill, you should know exactly what you’re opposing, not just the vague principle behind it. Second, it’ll provide you with a valuable insight: that these bills are written in an attempt to obscure the truth.

Exposed: Deadly cancer drugs make cancer worse and kill patients more quickly ~ link ~ And Big Pharma does not care....they are making LOTS of money.  If you, or someone you know, has cancer consider Rife Therapy (do a Google search of this and the late Dr. Royal Raymond Rife) and do take Apple Cider pills (take them anyway, with or without cancer to prevent cancer).  Get 'outside of the box' that Big Pharma wants you in, if you want to live!   Stirling

Cancer drugs, pushed by many drug companies as the only ‘scientific’ method of combating cancer alongside chemotherapy, have been found to actually make cancer worse and kill patients more quickly.

The findings come after research was conducted on the cancer drugs at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Sold at a premium price to cancer sufferers, it turns out these drugs are not only ineffective but highly dangerous.

Must see graphic: How the 'Too Big To Fail' banks were born ~ link

Dancing the Apocalypso with the Mictobial Gestapo ~ link ~ While in Geneva, I went to see the new Soderbergh film, Contagion. The movie features a scenario in which a pandemic wipes out a big chunk of the world's population. The meta messages in the movie were clear—“Government is good. A pandemic is an accidental natural event and your government is only trying to protect you. Bloggers, however, are evil and opportunistic and not to be believed.”

Propaganda, it appears, is not only the dominion of mainstream reporters. Hollywood has gotten into the game, as well, pushing out movies which have a subtext that is frankly poisonous.

As I said to Director Jarmo Sareva as I pleaded for intervention, we appear to be cresting on a deliberately engineered attack, under the guise of a circumstantial pandemic, which has the potential of killing untold millions of people.  The fact that the delivery systems which have been identified are domestic, indicates that the United States is planning to attack selected segments of its own population. Saddam Hussein was hanged for a purported attack on his own people, the infamous gassing of the Kurds. Is the United States now so powerful that no one will attempt to put a stop to this?
