US says IAEA report on Iran next week critical ~ link ~ Man this just screams 'SET-UP FOR WAR'.   Stirling

"The IAEA is scheduled to release a report on Iran's nuclear program next week and President Sarkozy and I agree on the need to maintain the unprecedented pressure on Iran to meet its obligations," he told reporters.

Western opponents of Tehran hope the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report will make a firm assessment that it believes Iran is working to develop a nuclear weapon; but it is not clear if it will go that far.

Huge asteroid headed for close encounter with Earth ~ link ~ A huge asteroid will pass closer to Earth than the moon Tuesday, giving scientists a rare chance for study without having to go through the time and expense of launching a probe, officials said.

Earth's close encounter with Asteroid 2005 YU 55 will occur at 6:28 p.m. EST (2328 GMT) Tuesday, as the space rock sails about 201,000 miles from the planet.

US Military official: We are concerned Israel will not warn us before Iran attack ~ link ~ The U.S. is "absolutley" concerned that Israel is preparing an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, and this concern is increasing, CNN reported the official as saying.

The U.S. has increased its “watchfulness” of Iran and Israel over the past few weeks, U.S. Central and European Commands, which watch Iranian and Israeli developments respectively, are “increasingly vigilant” at this time, according to the official, and a second military official who also spoke with CNN.

Clegg won't rule out strike on Iran ~ link ~ The LibDems had a lot of support as it was the only major party that could be described as anti-war and not near as corrupt as Labour or the Conservatives.  But 'power corrupts' and the LibDems supported the horrific Libya War and now the Deputy PM supports the coming General Middle East War.   This will likely kill any chance of the LibDems ever taking part in Government again, much less forming a government on their own.  Their base is largely gone; it left with the antiwar and honor/honesty part of what it meant to be LibDem.   Stirling

The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, described the escalating situation in Iran as "grave" and said the British government would not rule out any action against the country.

Speaking during a visit to Manchester today (Thursday), Mr Clegg said: "This government believes, as many, if not most governments do around the world, that a nuclear armed Iran would be very bad for the world and bad for peace and stability in the world, and it would flout completely international opinion. There is near universal consensus around the world that that would be a bad thing".

Ultra-Orthodox Jews spitting attack on Old City Christian clergymen becoming daily event ~ link ~ So we should continue to give American and Western blood and money to support such a racist state that hates Christianity???   Stirling

Ultra-Orthodox young men curse and spit at Christian clergymen in the streets of Jerusalem's Old City as a matter of routine. In most cases the clergymen ignore the attacks, but sometimes they strike back. Last week the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court quashed the indictment against an Armenian priesthood student who had punched the man who spat at him.

Johannes Martarsian was walking in the Old City in May 2008 when an young ultra-Orthodox Jew spat at him. Maratersian punched the spitter in the face, making him bleed, and was charged for assault. But Judge Dov Pollock, who unexpectedly annulled the indictment, wrote in his verdict that "putting the defendant on trial for a single blow at a man who spat at his face, after suffering the degradation of being spat on for years while walking around in his church robes is a fundamental contravention of the principles of justice and decency."

Vicious triangle forming against Iran ~ link ~ In recent days, there has been a vociferous interest in Israel, the US and the UK in fanning the flames of Iranophobia in what observers see as a political red herring to engage in a catastrophic war in the Middle East.

The trio, which constitute a vicious triangle in their roguishly Iranophobic endeavors, have manifestly held secret meetings among the top security officials and formed a united front against Iran.

A recent report by The Guardian has revealed that British Chief of Defense Staff Gen. David Richards visited Tel Aviv secretly during the week, held a number of meetings with top Israeli military and intelligence officials and reassured them of Britain's unwavering support in case of an attack on Iran's nuclear sites. Further to that, the British officials revealed that the US government was mulling accelerating plans for targeted attacks on the country's nuclear sites and that Britain was prepared to be part of the plan for a possible attack.

Interestingly enough, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak arrived in London on Wednesday to hold talks with his British counterpart, with Iran of course to top the agenda. The importance of these meetings is that Britain's senior military official had not visited Israel for a decade. So, the recent meetings indicate the cementing security and military ties between the two countries.

Only recently, a senior US military official addressing a forum in Washington said that Iran had become the biggest threat to the United States. “The biggest threat to the United States and to our interests and to our friends … has come into focus and it's Iran.”

Coincidentally (how so?), on the same day (Friday), Israel's president Shimon Peres also stated something virtually to the same effect, saying that the military option to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons was nearer.

When asked by Channel Two News if events were moving toward to a military option rather than a diplomatic one, Peres replied, “I believe so, I estimate that intelligence services of all these countries are looking at the ticking clock, warning leaders that there is not much time left.”

In this regard, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, a pea in the pod, graced a G-20 summit of world leaders in France with his pithy words, “Iran's behavior and this obsessional desire to acquire nuclear military (capability) is in violation of all international rules. … If Israel's existence were threatened, France would not stand idly by.”

The trio (excluding France) have stepped up their rhetoric against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Threat is not a new word to Iran and the country is prepared for the worst and as Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has said on the sidelines of a news conference in the Libyan city of Benghazi, “The US has unfortunately lost wisdom and prudence in dealing with international issues. It depends only on power. They have lost rationality; we are prepared for the worst but we hope they will think twice before they put themselves on a collision course with Iran.”

Time and again, the USA has renewed its hollow rhetoric against the Islamic Republic of Iran, repeating the same allegations again and again and again: that Iran is pursuing a clandestine nuclear weapons program; that Iran is supporting terrorism in the region; that Iran is violating human rights; that if Iran acquires the technology to produce nuclear weapons, it will create World War III.

The recent allegation leveled against the Islamic republic ahead of the next week's report by the UN atomic watchdog is that Iran has “built a large steel container for carrying out tests with high explosives that could be used in nuclear weapons,” and that Iran has made computer models of a nuclear warhead and other previously undisclosed details on alleged secret work by Tehran on nuclear arms.” Allegation comes after allegation against the Islamic Republic and the vicious triangle is forming to set a stage for an all-out attack against the country with the intended purpose of plundering its natural resources.

However, Iran will not sit quietly and leave the invaders in peace.

In August 2011, a top IRGC commander Brigadier General Ali Shadmani envisaged three effective measures to counter any potential act of aggression.

1. As Israel is the USA's backyard, Iran will disturb peace there. (The absence of peace in Israel will certainly deny repose to the USA as well.)

2. It would take full control of the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway where over 40 percent of all traded oil passes (thereby spiraling up the oil prices to a confounding level and dealing a heavy blow to the already deteriorating economy.)

3. It would keep a close watch on all American military bases in Afghanistan and Iraq. In case of an attack, Iran will cripple the troops stationed in those bases and incapacitate them of any possible move.

In the final analysis, the US hidden agenda in creating Iranophobia is to raise a specter of a nuclear apocalypse in the world, invade the country in alliance with Israel and the UK and other nefarious powers and eventually get their hands on Iran's myriad resources which they have coveted for so long.

In the unholy Israel-US-UK alliance, one cannot say with surety who is the most responsible party for these anti-Iran provocative acts but it seems that the Israeli tail is wagging the US-UK dog.

Former Mossad chief: 'Iran War will jeopardize Middle East for century' ~ link ~ There are many highly intelligent and very well informed persons in Israel, who are as pro-Israeli as they come, who feel that the General Middle East War that Netanyahu and his nuts are pushing is insane and will likely destroy their Israel.   Stirling

Former director of Israeli spy agency, Mossad, says any possible attack against Iran would impact the entire region for the next 100 years.

"An attack on Iran could affect not only Israel, but the entire region for 100 years," Ephraim Halevy told Israeli daily Ynet on Friday.

Halevy added that Iran is "far from posing an existential threat to Israel."

He made the remarks after reports said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have been trying to persuade the cabinet to militarily strike Iran over its nuclear program.

Israeli Minister of Finance Yuval Steinitz, Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya'alon, Interior Minister Eli Yishai, Intelligence and Atomic Energy Minister Dan Meridor and Minister-without-Portfolio Benny Begin remain firmly opposed to any action against Iran.

"Hold me back" shouts Netanyahu ~ link Let’s be realistic. Neither Nahum Barnea nor Ron Ben Yishai would have published their inflammatory articles - especially with comments on the detailed opinions of senior members of the Israeli Administration – without previous approval – maybe even a request to publish such a piece – from Netanyahu’s office. Netanyahu has positioned himself in his favorite stand: “Hold me back, or I’ll attack.” If it wasn’t due to his Alzheimer, Shamir would be applauding right now. The fact that next to these articles we find others supporting a Western attack on Iran supports this interpretation.

Benyamin “Bibi” Netanyahu and his brother Yonatan graduated Bahad 1 (Instruction Base 1 – the IDF Officers School) with the highest qualifications ever (at least until I left Israel in 2002). Yet, it isn’t a secret Bibi is not a hero. There is no need to hold him back because he won’t attack Iran. Israel is not strong enough for that. Again, an Israeli prime minister is trying to manipulate Western opinion to sanction another unjustifiable attack on innocents.

Iran is not Iraq. It is much larger, has a huge population and its administrative centers are mainly within a mountainous area. Moreover, Iranians have developed reliable and advanced military technologies. The American defeat in Vietnam will look as a picnic compared to what may happen in Iran. Once Iran would decide to act in self defense against Israel, the chances of the last would be bleakAlso see: Israeli Defense Ministry Acknowledges Defeat ~ link ~ Those who follow this website for a while, know that since 2009 I’m saying Israel won’t attack Iran, despite all the recurring reports claiming otherwise. Simply, Israel is too weak. However, it may attempt to wag the dog by forcing the USA into such a war. Now it even looks that -encouraged by the Libyan massacre in which his army took a leading role - French president Sarkozy may be willing to cooperate in an attack on Tehran. “Sarkozy the Great, Sarkozy the Great” he mumbles every day while shaving and planning his conquests eastwards.

Israeli missile expert Uzi Rubin says Iranian long-range missiles, which can hit national infrastructures due to their high precision, pose no threat to Israel, they can be intercepted in the air by Arrow 3 anti-missile missiles ~ link ~ This jerk is dangerous!   The way to get around a anti-missile system is to fire more missiles than the system has anti-missile missiles, and since missiles are much cheaper than anti-missile missiles the offense can win.  People in Israel better shake off the Jews are smart and Muslims are dumb bullshit and do so quick, or they are all going to wake up dead!  Stirling
"Iran has between 300 and 400 Shahab-3 ground missiles that it can fire at Israel," Rubin told Ynet, adding that the Iranians have managed to significantly improve the missile's precision "from a marked target that could spread across a few kilometers to just a few hundred meters."

Pakistan Carts Its Nukes Around In Delivery Vans ~ link Pakistan is taking nuclear paranoia to a horrifying new low. And it’s making the world a vastly more dangerous place in the process.

Freaked out about the insecurity of its nuclear arsenal, the Pakistani military’s Strategic Plans Division has begun carting the nukes around in clandestine ways. That might make some sense on the surface: no military wants to let others know exactly where its most powerful weapons are at any given moment. But Pakistan is going to an extreme.

The nukes travel “in civilian-style vehicles without noticeable defenses, in the regular flow of traffic,” according to a blockbuster story on the U.S.-Pakistan relationship in The Atlantic. Marc Ambinder and Jeffrey Goldberg write that tactical nuclear weapons travel down the streets in “vans with a modest security profile.” Somewhere on a highway around, say, Karachi, is the world’s most dangerous 1-800-FLOWERS truck.
Vietnam diplomat warns of war in South China Sea ~ link ~ Dang Dinh Quy, president of the state-run Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, told a Hanoi conference on maritime disputes that the significance of the sea to regional peace was becoming increasingly evident.

"The South China Sea is still rife with smoldering tensions that threaten to escalate into full-scale conflicts if the parties concerned do not exercise self-restraint and respect for the basic principles of international law," he warned.

South China Sea tensions rattle China's neighbors ~ link ~ President Hu Jintao has presented himself as a "friend in need" during encounters with European supplicants while stopping short, for now, of committing China to a specific contribution.

But China has been showing a very different face to countries closer to home in an increasingly tense confrontation over rival claims to the resource-rich waters of the South China Sea.
