Building a Pretext to Target Iran: Accusing Tehran of Orchestrating an Assassination Plot against the Saudi Ambassador ~ link ~ In a 'United against Iran Campaign,' the US government has accused Tehran of orchestrating an assassination plot against the Saudi envoy in Washington, a move which is to be seen as part of US stratagem to carry on with its plan of demonizing and isolating the Islamic Republic of Iran.

US Vice President Joe Biden said on "The Early Show" on Wednesday that "It's critically important that we unite the world in the isolation of and dealing with the Iranians. That's the surest way to be able to get results."

Obviously, the US officials will use the fabricated occasion to press for new international sanctions as they say the Iranian agents have sought to hire a purported member of a Mexican drug cartel to assassinate the Saudi envoy on American soil.

Anti-austerity protestors camp in Rome ~ link ~ The volume of the country's debt burden equals 1.77 trillion euros (USD 2.45 trillion), standing only second to Greece in the eurozone and calculated at 120 percent of its gross domestic product.

The Italian government introduced the austerity plan under pressure from the ECB to placate market concerns over its ability to check its huge public debt.

Zionists behind anti-Iran claim ~ link ~ “Regardless of the impertinence and hollowness of the claim, one should not disregard the influence of the powerful Zionist lobby in the new mudslinging plan,” Ismail Salami told Press TV on Wednesday.  The political analyst went on to say that the move is part of a US ploy that seeks to “demonize” the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On Tuesday, the US Justice Department accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called upon other nations on Wednesday to join the US in “condemning this threat to international peace and security.”  Salami described the remarks made by Clinton as comments that sought to enhance “Iranophobia” in the world.

Internal Memo: Oct 17-20, 2011  - Historic 'Surge' Exercises Airlift Crisis Contingency Response ~ link ~ When they talk about a "historic surge" in USAF airlift they are talking about a really massive event.  I have spent some time at Scott Air Force Base and this is one large and busy place, normally.  Is something planned for this time period?   Stirling

As the gears of war are turning with the recent staged terror plot, one must wonder what lurks on the horizon. The following memo released the other day to some Air Force and Lockheed Martin employees indicates some type of military surge in day-to-day workload from October 18 – 20;

The surge, slated to take place between October 17 and 21, will bring together 18 active duty and 23 Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Command crews and 41 total force C- 5 Galaxy aircraft to fly cargo in support of combatant commanders across the globe, according to Maj. Sandy Thompson, AFTRANS’ lead planner. The missions will be in accordance with priorities set by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and are expected to have no impact on the operations of civilian contract carriers.

“The 41 daily missions will more than double the 18 we normally execute on a typical day,” Thompson said. “To put in a historical context, the best C-5 daily achievement since 2007 was 33 C-5s flown.”

With its ability to carry more than any other U.S. military aircraft and to fly 6,000 miles without refueling, the C-5 has been a “workhorse” for the Air Force since the 1970s, according to the Air Force fact sheet. In addition, the C-5 can transport fully equipped combat units rapidly anywhere in the world and then provide the support needed to sustain them. While all four models of the C-5 fleet will be involved in the surge, the newest model, the C-5M Super Galaxy, will playa particularly important role.

The World vs Wall Street ~ link ~ Thousands of Americans have non-violently occupied Wall St -- an epicentre of global financial power and corruption. They are the latest ray of light in a new movement for social justice that is spreading like wildfire from Madrid to Jerusalem to 146 other cities and counting, but they need our help to succeed.

Publicly-owned banks as an Instrument of Economic Development: The German Model ~ link ~Publicly-owned banks were instrumental in funding Germany’s “economic miracle” after the devastation of World War II.  Although the German public banks have been targeted in the last decade for takedown by their private competitors, the model remains a viable alternative to the private profiteering being protested on Wall Street today.

One of the demands voiced by protesters in the Occupy Wall Street movement is for a “public option” in banking.  What that means was explained by Dr. Michael Hudson, Professor of Economics at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, in an interview by Paul Jay of the Real News Network on October 6:

[T]he demand isn’t simply to make a public bank but is to treat the banks generally as a public utility, just as you treat electric companies as a public utility. . . . Just as there was pressure for a public option in health care, there should be a public option in banking.  There should be a government bank that offers credit card rates without punitive 30% interest rates, without penalties, without raising the rate if you don’t pay your electric bill. This is how America got strong in the 19th and early 20th century, by essentially having public infrastructure, just like you’d have roads and bridges. . . . The idea of public infrastructure was to lower the cost of living and to lower the cost of doing business.
We don’t hear much about a public banking option in the United States, but a number of countries already have a resilient public banking sector.  A May 2010 article in The Economist noted that the strong and stable publicly-owned banks of India, China and Brazil helped those countries weather the banking crisis afflicting most of the world in the last few years.
