Italians launch General Strike against austerity ~ link ~ The Italians, having seen the Global Banking Cartel and their bought-and-paid-for political whores, rip them off soundly, are NOT inclined to go along with this Austerity Fascism bullcrap!  Stirling

Tens of thousands of Italians have taken to the streets during a day-long strike against the government's latest austerity measures. Flights, trains and buses were cancelled, and government offices shut.

Italy to hike VAT as strikers protest austerity - with video ~ link ~ Notice that Reuters says 'hundreds of thousands' went on strike but the BBC story above only speaks of 'tens of thousands'.  The BBC has become a totally worthless reactionary fascist rag in my opinion.  Stirling

Italy's government pledged on Tuesday to hike value added tax and introduce a constitutional balanced budget amendment as hundreds of thousands of people went on strike against an already widely criticised plan.

As market pressure on Italian bonds intensified, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right government yielded to demands to strengthen measures intended to balance the budget by 2013.

Senior Israeli general: Likelihood of Regional War growing ~ link ~ I believe that the next 5 or 6 weeks will tell the story.  Either we will enter a horrific nightmare that the globalists and Netanyahu have cooked up, a Middle East Regional War with WMD that will morph into World War III, or more sane heads will prevail and we will not face an Human Extinction Event/WWIII, at least not this time.  Stirling

Recent revolutions in the Arab world and the deteriorating ties with Turkey are raising the likelihood of a regional war in the Middle East, IDF Home Front Command Chief, Major General Eyal Eisenberg warned Monday.

Referring to what he characterized as the possibility of a "radical Islamic winter," Major-General Eisenberg said: "This raises the likelihood of an all-out, total war, with the possibility of weapons of mass destruction being used."

Nevada gunman dies after killings ~ link ~ also see ~ link ~ A gunman with a rifle opened fire at a restaurant in Nevada's capital today, killing three people including two uniformed National Guard members and himself, and wounding six others in a hail of gunfire during the morning breakfast hour, authorities and witnesses said.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the gunman had any connection with the military or the Guard, said Nevada National Guard Sergeant Mike Getten. He said Guard members were meeting at the restaurant

James Murdoch 'was told of phone-hacking email' - with video  ~ link ~ James Murdoch was today facing dramatic new claims that he was told phone hacking at the News of the World went beyond one reporter.

Former top lawyer Tom Crone said the News International chairman was told of an email showing the scandal went beyond just one rogue reporter.

Turkey warns of more sanctions against Israel ~ link ~ Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey said today his nation's navy will step up its surveillance of the eastern Mediterranean Sea since Israel has refused to apologise for last year's deadly raid on a Gaza-bound protest flotilla there.

Erdogan also said his government may impose more sanctions against Israel since it has refused to apologise for the attack on the flotilla. The attack occurred in international waters, 72 nautical miles from land, and killed nine Turkish pro-Palestinian activists.

Switzerland loses patience and weakens its currency ~ link ~ The Swiss franc took its biggest plunge in more than 20 years today as the nation's central bank dramatically intervened to weaken its currency and prop up the economy.

Investors have been piling money into the "Swissie" as a safe-haven bet amid growing fears for the euro this year, sending the franc more than 20% higher against the single currency.

European shares hit 2-year low as Swiss stocks rise ~ link ~ European shares fell to their lowest close in more than two years on Tuesday, on worries that the euro zone debt crisis was deteriorating, with political discord in the region, and that major economies were headed for recession.

Banks exposed to the euro zone peripheral among the worst performers. The STOXX Europe 600 Banking Index fell 2.1 percent and hit a fresh 29-month low. French banks BNP Paribas and Societe Generale fell 5.2 and 6.3 percent respectively.

US plan to delay Palestinian bid for statehood at UN General Assembly ~ link ~ The efforts to delay the formal statehood recognition is NOT likely to succeed.  Stirling

Barak to Abbas: Zero Israeli tolerance for Palestinian Sept. 20 outbreaks ~ link ~ The Israelis are apt 'to go ape shit' over this issue.  Let's just hope things don't get too out of hand.  Stirling

Libya War: Armed Gaddafi loyalists flee in armored convoy to Niger ~ link ~ The convoy, of at least 50 vehicles, is said to be headed for the capital, Niamey. It is believed to include Tuareg fighters recruited by fugitive Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi.

Niger's foreign minister said Col Gaddafi is not in the convoy. His spokesman insists he is still in Libya.

Clarke to lift court filming ban ~ link ~ The UK Attorney General still has not agreed to remove the sexist rules of male only succession to my titles.  He is proving to be as bad as the corrupt Labour Party hacks.  I have a potentially large Human Rights case on this issue that could go after his personal assets.  I really don't want to 'go there' but I am getting tired of this nonsense.   Stirling

Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke will overturn an 85-year-old ban on filming in courts but has warned that theatrical displays will not be allowed.

Leeds gets first church minister to its night-time clubs and bars ~ link ~ And what a good-looking minister she is (sorry, I just couldn't resist the temptation to say that).  Stirling

Broadcasters will be allowed to screen footage of judgments in England and Wales for the first time as part of "unprecedented plans to improve transparency", Mr Clarke said.
