chlorophyll concentration in the Gulf of Mexico, which may have a serious impact on
the whole ecosystem and ocean circulation. Since a strong correlation within ocean
dynamics and biology (i.e. the phytoplankton abundance) is well assessed,
chlorophyll concentration reduction may have serious consequences on the Gulf
circulation up to the Gulf Stream. This could represent further evidence of the
environmental impact caused by the BP oil disaster and by the successive man made
interventions. The actual global climate situation may already be a first hint of the
physical evolution of both the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf Stream systems.
The importance of chlorophyll as a water quality parameter is well assessed:
the measurement of its concentration and distribution is one of the best ways
to monitor the microscopic living plant matter (phytoplankton and/or algae)
which plays a vital role in the life of the ocean as a basis of the food chain.
Waters with high chlorophyll concentration are generally rich in nutrients,
allowing therefore the survival and evolution of the living matter. When the
living plant matter distribution crushes and dies in response to changing
environmental conditions, it depletes the dissolved oxygen levels: this is one of
the primary causes of fish population massive death, as it has extensively been
reported by the media these last months concerning the situation in the Gulf of
Mexico. It may be a direct evidence of the effect of pollution generated by
man-made intervention.
Since the BP Oil platform accident and the successive introduction of other
chemicals in the ecosystem of the Gulf, satellite data has shown direct
evidence of a drastic reduction of the chlorophyll concentration (mg/m3) in the
Gulf of Mexico by approximately a factor of 100 as a first analysis although
further studies will be needed to confirm this result. As displayed in the
following satellite images (in this study were examined the corresponding
images up to the last 20 years, but due to lack of space we include below only
the images of the last 5 years), this observation appears to be neither a
seasonal event, nor an expected event. The accident and the following manmade
interventions may have caused an irreversible alteration of the whole
ecosystem of the Gulf, which appears nowadays to be a new artificial biophysical
system, different from the natural system existing previously.

As any other complex bio-systems, we may describe the Gulf as a gigantic
living organism, whose parts, life and dynamics are so strongly correlated and
intertwined up to the point that each element can’t in any case be disjoined.
Indeed a strong correlation within ocean dynamics and biology (i.e. the
phytoplankton abundance) is well assessed and many researches and models
prove it in systems other than the Gulf of Mexico [1]. Now the Gulf is a novel
man-made system, virtually instable: a gigantic seriously ill organism similar
to a cancer affected patient. The direct consequence is that no one may predict
what will be the future status of this new man-made Gulf system. In particular
no one can foresee the impact on the Gulf Stream, whose dynamics and
activity are strongly correlated and dependent from the Gulf system, as
already stated in my previous paper [2]. According to my opinion, it could be
very difficult, if not impossible, that the Gulf natural state is restored in the
way it was before the accident. Since both those systems, like all other
complex systems, exist and evolve far from the thermodynamic equilibrium,
we cannot refer to the concept of equilibrium, but they will both certainly reach
a new physical complex status which could be very different the previous
natural one. The actual global climate situation may already be a first hint of
this new evolution.

Last Ice Age happened in less than year say scientists ~ link ~  THE last ice age 13,000 years ago took hold in just one year, more than ten times quicker than previously believed, scientists have warned.

Rather than a gradual cooling over a decade, the ice age plunged Europe into the deep freeze, German Research Centre for Geosciences at Potsdam said.

Cold, stormy conditions caused by an abrupt shift in atmospheric circulation froze the continent almost instantly during the Younger Dryas less than 13,000 years ago – a very recent period on a geological scale.

The new findings will add to fears of a serious risk of this happening again in the UK and western Europe – and soon.


UK: Brace yourselves for a mini-Ice Age: This winter to be coldest in 300 YEARS ~ link ~  If you thought last week was as cold as you could bear it, brace yourself. Forecasters say the worst is yet to come, and this winter could be the harshest since the Thames froze over more than three centuries ago.

Temperatures for December are the coldest on record, with the average reading close to minus 1c – almost six degrees below normal. And with forecasters warning that this winter’s ‘mini ice age’ might last until mid-March, this winter could be the worst since 1683-84 when a fair was held on the Thames.

Experts are predicting the cold snap that has crippled much of Europe could continue well into the new year, but compared to 1740 the temperatures are almost tropical.
Back then the cold snap hit Ireland the worst - up to 500,000 people died during the Great Irish Frost which lasted an incredible two years.
The bitter weather led to food riots, famine, epidemic and ultimately death. The causes of the extreme weather remain a mystery.
New book Arctic Ireland by Trinity College history professor David Dickson explores the 'the longest period of extreme cold in modern European history'.
Mr Dickinson said the Great Frost was 'without known precedent and defied conventional explanation'. It started on December 29, 1739, and 'introduced a cold so penetrating that liquids froze indoors and ice floes appeared at the river mouths'.

China braces for New Round of Cold Snaps ~ link ~  We need to consider the fact that evidence is now indicating a significant probability that we have entered a NEW ICE AGE, or at least a mini-Ice Age.  Stirling

Temperatures dropped sharply in a large part of China Wednesday as a new round of cold snaps approached with sharp winds.

China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a cold front warning at 6 a.m., saying a large part of the country from northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to southwestern Guizhou Province would see a temperature drop of up to 10 degrees centigrade before 8 a.m. Thursday.

In the meantime, strong wind ranging from 39 km to 62 km per hour will slash most areas north of the Yellow River, the NMC said.

New Yorkers still trapped in streets buried by two feet of snow several days after an epic storm have lost patience with Michael Bloomberg, the city's mayor and are putting him under intense pressure over the management of the clear-up. 

The east coast of America was struck by a dramatic blizzard between Sunday and Monday, with up to 32 inches of snow falling in a single night.

Thousands of people in New York remain snowed in, as city authorities whose adverse weather routines normally work like clockwork, have failed this time to plough their roads. A newborn baby died after ambulances could not reach its mother for nine hours.

Will 2011 Become 1848?  ~ link ~ That was the year of revolution all over Europe.  Stirling 

Violence erupted throughout Europe in 1848, a time that was later dubbed the “year of revolution.”  Though the motives and perpetrators varied from country to country and even from region to region, the frequently violent protests sought major changes in the status quo, to include political emancipation and economic reform.  The revolutionaries were eventually suppressed by use of military force, but the ideas of national rebirth and political change lived on to resurface in Italy, Germany, and France later in the century. 

What drove the revolutionaries was the principle that the old system that had for centuries regulated the lives of Europeans was broken beyond repair.  The old land-based economy had produced starvation and the control of the political structure by what amounted to oligarchies in most countries meant that few felt any kind of connection to the state, which was increasingly seen as a taxation machine backed up by the brute force of soldiers. Alexis de Tocqueville described the turmoil in his native France as "society was cut in two: those who had nothing united in common envy, and those who had anything united in common terror."

Wall Street is getting nervous. As oil prices continue to creep up and as more evidence accumulates that the age of ever-growing energy production and economic growth is coming to an end, a specter is haunting the great investment banks and brokerage houses of New York. Abortion has become very big business in the United States.  Since Roe v. Wade was legalized by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973, tens of millions of babies have been killed in the wombs of their mothers.  In fact, it has been estimated that approximately 50 million babies have been aborted in America since 1973.  It is a national horror that will never be erased.  Most proponents of abortion will tell you that it is all about giving mothers the "right to choose" whether to end the life of their babies or not, but there is actually a lot more to the big business of abortion than just that.  The truth is that abortion in America is also about population control, eugenics, "protecting the environment" and making a ton of money.
