Flood chaos forces mass evacuations in Australia - with video ~ link ~
Map
North-eastern Australia's worst flooding in decades is continuing to cause chaos across the region. Around 1,000 people in Queensland have been evacuated, including the entire population of the town of Theodore. The government has declared Theodore and two other towns in the region to be disaster zones, and forecasters say the floods have not yet peaked. The cost of the damage is expected to top AU$1bn (£650m), including massive losses of sunflower and cotton crops. Army Black Hawk helicopters are being despatched to help evacuate the 300 residents of Theodore, where every building in the town apart from the police station has been flooded, local media report. The town's river has risen more than 50cm (20 in) above its previous recorded high, Emergency Management Queensland spokesman Bruce O'Grady told Australia's ABC News. "We're in unchartered territory in that area," he said. "The [weather] bureau is indicating it could go higher."

Snowiest December in a century in Berlin ~ link
Photo: DPA

Taken together, the German capital and the surrounding state of Brandenburg have on average had the most snow in about 110 years, the DWD said. In places, the snow was 40 centimetres thick. And parts of the capital may have broken records entirely, with more snow than ever before.

“In the Berlin area we have never had so much snow in December,” a DWD meteorologist in Potsdam told daily
Die Welt.

The white Christmas in the capital was also a rare event. The last white Christmas Berlin experienced before Saturday’s was in 2001 when there was a modest 10 centimetres’ cover on the ground.

New York Times claims Global Warming creates our record cold weather ~ link ~

This exact phenomena happened to me just the other day. I put a pot of water on the gas stove to boil, upon which time at the door was a knock, so I went to see who it was. While talking ad nauseum at the door to friendly fusion center gestapo, federal agents, TSA thugs, thought police and mattress tag enforcement agents, I suddenly remembered my pot of boiling water. Sure enough, as it came to a rolling boil just as government grant funded science predicted, it produced tons of snow all over the kitchen, creating near white-out conditions. Thank you, science!

Police: Winter cold kills 127 people in Poland ~ link ~ Police say 127 people have frozen to death so far this winter in Poland. The national police said on its website Monday that eight people have died since Christmas Eve alone.

Early and severe winter weather gripped Poland in late November with heavy snowfalls disrupting road, railway and air transport. Temperatures at night fell at times to almost minus 30 degrees Celsius (minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit.)

North-east US struggles for normality after blizzards - with video ~ link ~ A warm up is coming, so that should give them a break.  Stirling

The north-eastern US is trying to get back to normal after blizzards left tens of thousands of air passengers stranded and many people without power. Canada's Atlantic coast was also hit by the storm - the fourth in as many weeks to buffet the region.

Flights have now resumed into and out of New York, Boston and Philadelphia. But many passengers were expected to be stranded until the end of the week after some 7,000 flights were cancelled over the busy holiday travel period.

Why Is It So Cold? ~ link ~ My posted comments on this article:

Your article is a good one. Dr. Bill Deagle and I broke the story about Dr. Zangari and the Loop Current in July and August on the NutriMedical Report and on my news blog EUROPE. While there are a number of complicated factors involved in the current weather patterns globally, including solar activity, a long term weakening of the Gulf Stream, etc., the key causative factor in this winters weather patterns is the effective death of the Loop Current. The Loop Current in the Gulf of Mexico is a key part of the Thermohaline Circulation System (TCS). The TCS includes the Florida Current, the Gulf Stream, the North Atlantic Current, etc. Without the heat energy from the Gulf of Mexico, via the Loop Current, the TCS is weaker and is not transmitting as much heat to Ireland, the United Kingdom and northwest Europe as normal. Additionally, the 'river' (TCS) of warm water that normally flows towards Ireland has an effect on the atmosphere for up to 7 miles above the North Atlantic Current. This atmospheric effect acts as a type of steering mechanism on the Jet Stream (which is normally from 5 to 7 miles above the Earth). Without this effect on the Jet Stream, the Jet Stream has been acting 'abnormally'. This caused the high heat and drought in Russia and the high heat and flooding in other parts of Eurasia last summer. The same effect is what is causing the bitter cold weather this winter. Dr. Zangari does not see the Loop Current self-correcting anytime soon. However, I am seeing more and more current activity in the Gulf of Mexico on the satellite data, but the Loop Current itself has not re-established itself. When this may happen, in 2011 or 2012 or whenever is an open question. We simply do not have good historical scientific data on which to make predictions about this. Earl of Stirling

Enjoy the Dollar Rally While it Lasts ~ link I’m sure that if Alexander Hamilton were alive today, he would counsel our modern Treasury Secretary, Tim Geithner, to talk the dollar up, but to do everything he could to undermine the buck behind the scenes, thus over time depreciating our national debt down to nothing through a stealth devaluation. Given Geithner’s performance so far, I’d say he studied his history well. Hamilton must be smiling from the grave.

Where Are The Jobs?  American Companies Boost Hiring Overseas ~ link ~ The term, "Killing the goose that laid the golden egg" comes to mind.  Stirling

Corporate profits are up. Stock prices are up. So why isn't anyone hiring? Actually, many American companies are – just maybe not in your town. They're hiring overseas, where sales are surging and the pipeline of orders is fat. More than half of the 15,000 people that Caterpillar Inc. has hired this year were outside the U.S. UPS is also hiring at a faster clip overseas. For both companies, sales in international markets are growing at least twice as fast as domestically.

The trend helps explain why unemployment remains high in the United States, edging up to 9.8 percent last month, even though companies are performing well: All but 4 percent of the top 500 U.S. corporations reported profits this year, and the stock market is close to its highest point since the 2008 financial meltdown. But the jobs are going elsewhere.

"There's a huge difference between what is good for American companies versus what is good for the American economy," says Scott.

2011: "Dissent is what rescues Democracy" by Dr. Paul Craig Roberts (former US Assist. Sec. of the Treasury) ~ link

The year 2011 will bring Americans a larger and more intrusive police state, more unemployment and home foreclosures, no economic recovery, more disregard by the US government of US law, international law, the Constitution, and truth, more suspicion and distrust from allies, more hostility from the rest of the world, and new heights of media sycophancy.

2011 is shaping up as the terminal year for American democracy. The Republican Party has degenerated into a party of Brownshirts, and voter frustrations with the worsening economic crisis and military occupations gone awry are likely to bring Republicans to power in 2012. With them would come their doctrines of executive primacy over Congress, the judiciary, law, and the Constitution and America’s rightful hegemony over the world.

If not already obvious, 2010 has made clear that the US government does not care a whit for the opinions of citizens.  The TSA is unequivocal that it will reach no accommodation with Americans other than the violations of their persons that it imposes by its unaccountable power.  As for public opposition to war, the Associated Press reported on December 16 that “Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the U.S. can’t let public opinion sway its commitment to Afghanistan.”  Gates stated bluntly what has been known for some time: the idea is passe that government in a democracy serves the will of the people. If this quaint notion is still found in civics books, it will soon be edited out.

The House of Rothschild controls the economy and the politics of America ~ link ~ Yep!

Journalism of Appeasement, Corruption, Smoke & Mirrors ~ link

Here’s a brief summation of my recent reporting:
If we continue to let our politicians and wealthy members of society live in comfort, free from the consequences of their actions, we are complicit in our own demise.
Our country is so overrun with corruption, we cannot remain passive and expect things to get any better.
The economy is propped up by smoke and mirrors and will inevitably collapse. Without immediately breaking up the banks and holding the thieves accountable, we will continue on our downward spiral with increasingly severe and devastating consequences.
These are extremely unpleasant truths that we are now forced to confront. We have to act now. If you are not calling for revolution or organizing, you are either unaware of what’s happening around you, horribly naïve or a fascist sympathizer.
In response to statements like those above, I’ve been exchanging emails with colleagues (journalists and news editors) who have become “uncomfortable” with my reporting style and been saying some variation of the following: “You’re being too radical. This is too extreme for us to publish.”

I will not participate in the journalism of appeasement.

What has to happen for you to stop being a status quo supporting naïve journalist and realize that we are in the middle of a war? More accurately, it is a slaughter. An all-time record-breaking slaughter.

I refuse to “normalize the unthinkable.”

Here’s a list of stats that I am sure you are already extremely sick of hearing, what we have already passively accepted as “the new normal,” some new ALL-TIME RECORDS for you:

  • 3 million families foreclosed upon;

  • 30 million people in need of employment;

  • 43 million people on food stamps;

  • 52 million people in poverty;

  • 59 million people without healthcare;

  • 239 million living paycheck to paycheck;

  • $144 billion in Wall Street bonuses;

  • $13 Trillion in investible wealth within 1% of US population.

  • Ask yourself this question: How sick and depraved of a society do you have to live in to get an outcome like this?

    We now have the highest and most severe inequality of wealth in the history of the United States. We have witnessed an economic shock and awe campaign, acts of financial terrorism have impoverished tens of millions of people and put our future prospects in an urgently dire situation. We know who is responsible for it, yet nothing is done to hold them accountable, and most astounding of all, the people responsible for this (a financial terrorism network) are still in power!

    This is the largest criminal racket in world history. We need prosecutions under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, right now!

    Big Brother USA: Monitoring America ~ link

    Nine years after the terrorist attacks of 2001, the United States is assembling a vast domestic intelligence apparatus to collect information about Americans, using the FBI, local police, state homeland security offices and military criminal investigators.
    The system, by far the largest and most technologically sophisticated in the nation's history, collects, stores and analyzes information about thousands of U.S. citizens and residents, many of whom have not been accused of any wrongdoing.
    The government's goal is to have every state and local law enforcement agency in the country feed information to Washington to buttress the work of the FBI, which is in charge of terrorism investigations in the United States.
    Other democracies - Britain and Israel, to name two - are well acquainted with such domestic security measures. But for the United States, the sum of these new activities represents a new level of governmental scrutiny.
    This localized intelligence apparatus is part of a larger Top Secret America created since the attacks. In July, The Washington Post described an alternative geography of the United States, one that has grown so large, unwieldy and secretive that no one knows how much money it costs, how many people it employs or how many programs exist within it.
    Today's story, along with related material on The Post's Web site, examines how Top Secret America plays out at the local level. It describes a web of 4,058 federal, state and local organizations, each with its own counterterrorism responsibilities and jurisdictions. At least 935 of these organizations have been created since the 2001 attacks or became involved in counterterrorism for the first time after 9/11.

    Perpetual War Versus Perpetual Peace ~ link ~

    At the outset of 2011, we find ourselves one decade into a New Age of War.

    The War on Terror is reconfiguring every dimension of our lives into its own image.

    The psychology of the New Age of War on Terror is altering the DNA of our civilization.

    Racial profiling for terrorists is disturbing deep racisms within our fragile psyches, creating fears of foreigners and demonizing ‘illegal aliens’ as if they were all agents of the dreaded Al-Qaeda.

    • Many of our fellow citizens in the USA are deeply frightened by the mere appearance of foreign nationals.
    • Many of our fellow Americans are deeply afraid of each and every Muslim on our planet.
    • Congresswoman Sue Myrick of Charlotte is one of the most acute cases of Islamophobia in our nation.
    • Islamophobia has swiftly overtaken Anti-Semitism as the acceptable form of xenophobia in the 21st century.
    • Many of our leaders in government, politics, the military and the clergy advocate a long World War on Terror – in effect, committing America to a long and perpetual war with no end in sight.
    The goal of the neoconservatives who back perpetual war is a towering planetary monstrosity consisting of security checkpoints, cameras, armed guards – a malevolent and hostile place bristling with machine-gun wielding soldiers at border crossings and the ever present and watchful eyes of invisible intelligence agents who survey and supervise and map every minute detail of every human life on our planet.  This menacing tower of concrete and steel stands proud atop a massive infrastructure of prisons, jails and courthouses that control the flow of criminals and incarcerate the convicts, the accused and the merely suspicious among us.

    2011: A Brave New Dystopia ~ link ~ The two greatest visions of a future dystopia were George Orwell’s “1984” and Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World.” The debate, between those who watched our descent towards corporate totalitarianism, was who was right. Would we be, as Orwell wrote, dominated by a repressive surveillance and security state that used crude and violent forms of control? Or would we be, as Huxley envisioned, entranced by entertainment and spectacle, captivated by technology and seduced by profligate consumption to embrace our own oppression? It turns out Orwell and Huxley were both right. Huxley saw the first stage of our enslavement. Orwell saw the second.

    We have been gradually disempowered by a corporate state that, as Huxley foresaw, seduced and manipulated us through sensual gratification, cheap mass-produced goods, boundless credit, political theater and amusement. While we were entertained, the regulations that once kept predatory corporate power in check were dismantled, the laws that once protected us were rewritten and we were impoverished. Now that credit is drying up, good jobs for the working class are gone forever and mass-produced goods are unaffordable, we find ourselves transported from “Brave New World” to “1984.” The state, crippled by massive deficits, endless war and corporate malfeasance, is sliding toward bankruptcy. It is time for Big Brother to take over from Huxley’s feelies, the orgy-porgy and the centrifugal bumble-puppy. We are moving from a society where we are skillfully manipulated by lies and illusions to one where we are overtly controlled.
    Orwell warned of a world where books were banned. Huxley warned of a world where no one wanted to read books.

    Orwell warned of a state of permanent war and fear. Huxley warned of a culture diverted by mindless pleasure. Orwell warned of a state where every conversation and thought was monitored and dissent was brutally punished. Huxley warned of a state where a population, preoccupied by trivia and gossip, no longer cared about truth or information. Orwell saw us frightened into submission. Huxley saw us seduced into submission. But Huxley, we are discovering, was merely the prelude to Orwell. Huxley understood the process by which we would be complicit in our own enslavement. Orwell understood the enslavement. Now that the corporate coup is over, we stand naked and defenseless. We are beginning to understand, as Karl Marx knew, that unfettered and unregulated capitalism is a brutal and revolutionary force that exploits human beings and the natural world until exhaustion or collapse.

    The Pentagon's Christmas Present: Largest Military Budget Since World War II ~ link
    On December 22 both houses of the U.S. Congress unanimously passed a bill authorizing $725 billion for next year’s Defense Department budget.

    The bill, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011, was approved by all 100 senators as required and by a voice vote in the House.

    The House had approved the bill, now sent to President Barack Obama to sign into law, five days earlier in a 341-48 roll call, but needed to vote on it again after the Senate altered it in the interim.

    The proposed figure for the Pentagon’s 2011 war chest includes, in addition to the base budget, $158.7 billion for what are now euphemistically referred to as overseas contingency operations: The military occupation of Iraq and the war in Afghanistan.

    The $725 billion figure, although $17 billion more than the White House had requested, is not the final word on the subject, however, as supplements could be demanded as early as the beginning of next year, especially in regard to the Afghan war that will then be in its eleventh calendar year.
    Even as it currently is, the amount is the highest in constant dollars (pegged at any given year’s dollar and adjusted for inflation) since 1945, the final year of the Second World War. With recent U.S. census figures at 308 million, next year the Pentagon will spend $2,354 for every citizen of the country at the $725 billion price tag alone.
