BP Gulf Oil Disaster 'Static Kill' has failed and created mess that will make well harder to seal ~ link ~ The Russians still say that the only way is to use a tactical nuke to seal this off. See the reposting article below for an interesting diagram of what likely happened.

Drilling Experts Say BP Well Is Not Dead, Static Kill has Failed, and BP Needs To Answer Questions About Clouds Coming From Sea Floor.

Oil Industry Expert Bob Cavnar has posted a series of blog posts over the last few days that have escalated in charges that BP and the Federal Government BP and the Federal Government are deliberately providing the public with misinformation to cover up the fact that the static kill has backfired and made the BP Gulf Oil Spill well much harder to kill.

In a few of those posts Bob Cavnar says BP needs to explain the huge clouds coming from the sea floor that I have pointed out here, here, here, here, and here.

In his post BP: “Well is Static” US: “Oil is Gone” Nothing to See Here. Move Along he writes the following.

A Neocon Preps US for War with Iran ~ link ~
I guess I was na├»ve in thinking that The Atlantic and its American-Israeli writer Jeffrey Goldberg might shy away from arguing for yet another war — this one with Iran — while the cauldrons are still boiling in Afghanistan and Iraq.

It’s worth remembering how Goldberg helped to make the case for the U.S. invasion of Iraq. For instance, on Oct. 3, 2002, as America’s war fever was building, Goldberg wrote in Slate, the online magazine:

“The [Bush] administration is planning … to launch what many people would undoubtedly call a short-sighted and inexcusable act of aggression. In five years, however, I believe that the coming invasion of Iraq will be remembered as an act of profound morality.”

Looking back on Goldberg’s commentaries at the time, it’s also a reminder of how many U.S. publications that are considered centrist or even liberal were bending over backward to get in line with that coming invasion.

Israeli plane violates Lebanon's airspace ~ link ~ Can you image what would happen if the story read "Lebanese plane violates Israel's airspace"! This Frankenstein of a tiny hyper-racist aggressive nation has two sets of rules: one for itself (which is 'anything goes'); and another for everyone else ('do anything and we kill you' and maybe we will kill you anyway just because we want you gone and want your land).

The airspace violations, which are reported on an almost daily basis, contravene the United Nations Security Council's Resolution 1701, which ended the Israeli war on Lebanon in 2006. The offensive killed about 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians.

Iran to fuel Bushehr plant next week ~ link ~

The director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran says the fuel needed to launch the Bushehr nuclear power plant will be transferred to the plant building next week.

Ali Akbar Salehi said it will then take another seven to eight days to transfer the fuel to the reactor.

Earlier in the day, Russian officials said the power plant in Bushehr will be launched next week when fuel is loaded into the reactor on August 21. The reactor, however, will not be operational until September.

Western corporations began the construction of the Bushehr facility in the 1970s. However, following the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the Western companies reneged on their commitments and pulled out of the project due to political pressure from Washington.

Iran then turned to Russia to complete the project. In 1992, Tehran and Moscow signed a deal to complete the construction of the nuclear power plant.

Foreclosures and Mounting Unemployment: Signs of Slowdown in US Economy ~ link ~

Reports released this week on initial applications for jobless benefits, bank seizures of foreclosed homes and retail sales all reflect a dramatic decline in US economic growth and growing social distress.

On Thursday, the Labor Department reported that first-time jobless claims rose by 2,000 last week to 484,000, the third weekly rise in the past month and the highest level in six months. As has been the case with virtually all US economic data in recent weeks, the figures defied the more optimistic forecasts of economists. They had predicted jobless filings would fall by 14,000.

The four-week moving average of unemployment benefits claims also rose, increasing by 14,250 to 473,500. Most economists believe that weekly initial claims above 400,000 reflect an unhealthy economy that is generating too few jobs to keep pace with the normal growth of the labor force.

According to the Financial Times, Joshua Shapiro, chief US economist at MFR, noted that the current level of claims is consistent with an economy that is shedding 200,000 jobs a month. Last week, the Labor Department reported that US payrolls shrank by 131,000 in July.

A Sustainable level of bank profits appears to be about 1% of GDP - Higher bank profits lead to a Ponzi Economy and a Depression ~ link ~

I've previously noted that concentration of all the poker chips in a couple of hands ends the poker game.

And I've repeatedly pointed out that when banks get too big, it hurts the economy.

I've also noted that the government actually encouraged the big banks to get bigger and bigger (and see this, this and this). As just one example, the Treasury Department encouraged banks to use the bailout money to buy their competitors, and pushed through an amendment to the tax laws which rewards mergers in the banking industry.

The government has also given the big banks many tens of trillions of dollars.

In that light, Phd economist and leading economic modeller Steve Keen makes an important new contribution to our understanding of the banking sector.

Specifically, Keen's new model shows that bank profits above 1% of GDP are:

Congressman Dennis Kucinich makes a serious push to ban government assassinations of US citizens ~ link ~ That any president would claim the right to act as Grand Jury/Judge/Jury/executioner over an American citizen is reflective of just how low the evil fascists have taken this formally great nation of ours.

Is Robert Gibbs right about the 'Professional Left'? ~ link ~
I figured out why White House press secretary Robert Gibbs is so pissed off at the professional left. It's because the P.L.'s thought that Barack Obama was sincere when he promised to close Guantanamo, end the war in Iraq, pass a decent health care bill, clean up Wall Street, push through "card check", restore habeas corpus, and change Washington. They didn't realize that the "Hope Campaign" was a fraud and that Obama was another flannel-mouth, silver-spoon, Harvard-educated phony who'd promise anything to get elected, and then kick his supporters down the stairwell as soon as the votes were tallied. They believed in him. They trusted him.

But it isn't the professional left's fault that Obama's numbers are in the toilet or that the Democratic Party is going to get trounced in the upcoming midterms. Oh, no. Our strutting, celluloid hologram president managed that feat himself. All Obama had to do was "fight the good fight"; take on the corporations, the banksters, the Pentagon, the special interests. No one expected him to win.....The winning-part wasn't even important. What was important was sticking up for the little guy who can't afford a high-paid lobbyist to help him keep his house or his job or avoid destitution because his kid broke his fu**ing arm on the school playground and he doesn't have the $150,000 to pay the fu**ing hospital bills. That's all we expected; someone who'd represent ordinary working slobs. Not superman; just somebody who gave a shit.

But that's not what we got, is it? Obama won't fight for anything, because Obama doesn't believe in anything. Period. It's a character-thing; either you got it or you don't.

Investigative journalists face intense, new persecution in Europe ~ link ~

A troubling pattern is emerging in Europe of a crack down on anyone who criticises government policies, inlcuding, artificially engineered pandemics, wasteful vaccine campaigns, contrived financial crashes and debt mountains and plans for a world war three.

Polish investigative journalist Rafal Gawronski has to spend 45 days in prison without even being sentenced for any crime at all. He was not allowed to use a phone for two weeks. His family and supporters have only just been able to find out where he is after he was arrested for „slander“ outside the President’s Palace in Warsaw – and simply because he reports the facts about the mysterious Smolensk plane crash incident.

Natascha Koch, Rainer Hoffmann and Christine Persch are other internet bloggers who have faced or are facing persecution, detention and arrest in Austria and Germany in the last few weeks.
