BP PLC was preparing a system never tried before at such depths to siphon away the geyser of crude from a blown-out well a mile under Gulf of Mexico waters. However, the plan to lower 74-ton, concrete-and-metal boxes being built to capture the oil and siphon it to a barge waiting at the surface will need at least another six to eight days to get it in place.
Crews continued to lay boom in what increasingly feels like a futile effort to slow down the spill, with all ideas to contain the flow failing so far.
"I've been in Pensacola and I am very, very concerned about this filth in the Gulf of Mexico," Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said at a fundraiser for his U.S. Senate campaign Sunday night. "It's not a spill, it's a flow. Envision sort of an underground volcano of oil and it keeps spewing over 200,000 gallons every single day, if not more."BP to Try 'Anything, Everything' to Stop Gushing Gulf of Mexico Oil Well ~ link ~ Plans include chemical injections, containment domes and new pressure equipment, Bob Fryar, senior vice president of BP’s operations in Angola, said yesterday in Houston. U.S. President Barack Obama visited Louisiana yesterday and said the government would protect the natural resources of the region and rebuild the area. He said the U.S. had coordinated a “relentless response” to a “potentially unprecedented” disaster.
Admiral Thad Allen, the Coast Guard commandant overseeing efforts to control and clean up the spill, described the dark, mile-deep region where the oil is leaking as “inner space” that can only be tackled using remotely controlled devices.
“What we’re doing is closer to Apollo 13 than the Exxon Valdez,” Allen said, referring to the 1989 tanker spill that dumped 260,000 barrels of oil off Alaska.Oil Spill: Here's the Inside Scoop ~ link ~ Good overview.
BP faces 3 billion pound fine over Gulf of Mexico oil spill as it threatens to become worst ecological disaster in history ~ link ~ BP is facing a £3billion fine for the oil spill on America’s Gulf Coast which is threatening to become the worst ecological disaster in history - and is now under fire for not foreseeing the catastrophe.
Documents emerged yesterday showing BP had previously downplayed the possibility of a catastrophic accident at the rig.
It suggested in a 2009 exploration plan and environmental impact analysis for the well that an accident leading to a giant oil spill – and damage to beaches, fish and animals – was unlikely or virtually impossible.
Gulf Oil Rig Fiasco: It's All About Scarcity and World Government ~ link ~ This is a public relations stunt designed to make Americans think the federal government is responding to the disaster. In fact, the government has no intention of doing anything significant. Obama’s response if purely cosmetic and for public consumption.
Levin and many Republicans think Obama is a Marxist and wants a Soviet-like centralized economy. Obama, however, is not surrounded by textbook Marxists who want a revolution in the name of the proles. He is surrounded by bankers and monopoly men. The Obama administration is a creature of the CFR, Trilateral Commission, the Federal Reserve, and Wall Street banks, not the Comintern.
Oil rigs are being attacked in order to shut down oil production, not nationalize it. The name of the game is artificial scarcity designed to further cripple the economy.
On Friday, Obama promised that no new offshore oil drilling leases will be issued unless rigs have new safeguards to prevent a repeat of the explosion that unleashed the massive spill threatening the Gulf Coast, according to the Associated Press.
The number of structures in the Gulf is roughly 4,000, with 819 manned platforms. How long do you think it will take an ossified federal government to install these safeguards?
As Lindsey Williams has noted, the global elite are manipulating oil in order to create a world-wide economic depression. “America will see a financial collapse so great that it will take years to come out of it,” Williams told Alex Jones on November 21, 2008.
“Publicly available CFR and Club of Rome strategy manuals from 30 years ago say that a global government needs to control the world population through neo-feudalism by creating artificial scarcity,” Steve Watson, Alex Jones and Paul Watson wrote in 2005. “Now that the social architects have de-industrialized the United States, they are going to blame our economic disintegration on lack of energy supplies.”
As if on cue, the Soros foundation MoveOn has called on its members to telephone the White House and demand that Obama reinstate the ban on offshore oil drilling. “The MoveOn campaign is just one of a series of pleas from lawmakers and environmental groups for the administration to reverse its policy in the wake of the explosion and spill,” reports The Washington Post.
The explosion and massive oil spill will be used to make sure artificial oil scarcity continues. The ultimate goal is not clean energy or so-called energy independence but delivering the once great United States into the maw of the bankers who are determined to consolidate power and convert the world into a sprawling high-tech prison planet.US authorites close huge Gulf of Mexico area to fishing ~ link ~ The area covered stretches from New Orleans almost up to the Florida Coast, one of the largest shrimp (prawn) fishing area in the United States. Already there are signs that the disaster is starting to push up fish prices in the United States. This is partly based on the fears that the oil slick could move around Florida and move up the US East Coast.
The U.S. Gulf coast is a rich breeding ground for fish, crabs, oysters and shrimp and accounts for about 20 percent of the nation's total commercial seafood production. The shrimp and oyster supply, in particular, is heavily concentrated in the Gulf. The fishing industry in that region is worth at least $2.6 billion a year. Most of the fish caught is destined for domestic consumption, but there is also a growing export market to Canada.C'mon, how big is the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, really? ~ link ~ Independent scientists estimate that the renegade wellhead at the bottom of the Gulf could be spewing up to 25,000 barrels a day. If chokeholds on the riser pipe break down further, up to 50,000 barrels a day could be released, according to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration memo obtained by the Mobile, Ala., Press-Register.
As estimates of the spill increase, questions about the government's honesty in assessing the spill are emerging. At the same time, pressure is building for the US to release worst-case scenario estimates so residents of the Gulf Coast can adequately prepare.

Gulf oil spill: The Halliburton Connection ~ link ~ Investigators delving into the possible cause of the massive gulf oil spill are focusing on the role of Houston-based Halliburton Co., the giant energy services company, which was responsible for cementing the drill into place below the water. The company acknowledged Friday that it had completed the final cementing of the oil well and pipe just 20 hours before the blowout last week.
Expert Views on the Deepwater Horizon Incident and Aftermath ~ link ~ According to the Transocean veteran, BP had discovered significant quantities of oil and gas at Macondo, the name of the field that the Deepwater Horizon rig was drilling. BP had reached total depth and penetrated the reservoir horizon at 18,000 feet. Halliburton had cemented the last casing string in the well and inserted several cement plugs within it which BP intended to drill out at some future point when they returned to Macondo to begin full-field development.
With the cement plugs in place, Transocean had begun the process of removing the drill string in the well (used during the cementing operation) and had begun to replace the heavier mud in the wellbore with less dense sea water. This is apparently a common practice, as the plugs are designed to contain the reservoir fluids downhole. Effectively, the Deepwater Horizon was hours away from moving off the Macondo location.
At this point, some speculation begins. The leading hypothesis is that the cement plugs failed. The drilling crew wouldn’t be expecting a failure and perhaps weren’t monitoring the systems that detect an influx of fluids into the well, drill string, and drill pipe riser. Unbeknownst to those on the rig, a mixture of gas and water was coming up the drill string and riser to the surface and the deck of the Deepwater Horizon. The volatile mixture of high-pressure hydrocarbons likely ignited quickly and unexpectedly, killing the 11 individuals who were on the drilling floor itself.
Normally, one of these drillers would have hit the “panic button” that closed the blowout preventers (BOP) on the seabed, but likely didn’t have the time to do it. The toolpusher a bit farther away also has access to a panic button, but himself may have been incapacitated in the explosion or, if the electrical switches to the BOP were cut when the riser exploded, may have been unsuccessful in his attempt.
The next line of defense is called a “dead man’s switch” and is supposed to activate the BOP on the sea floor if electrical and hydraulic communications with the rig are lost. If this switch had activated properly, five hydraulic “rams” under thousands of pounds of pressure, including one “shear ram” that acts like a pair of scissors, should have cut the drill string and closed in the well. The shear ram is designed to cut up to 13-3/8″ casing, which is far larger than what was in the well at the time.
For reasons not understood, the BOP’s either didn’t activate at all or didn’t do their job as intended. ROV pictures from the seabed show drill pipe extending out of the BOP (which should have been sheared off) and the oil is leaking at this point, as well as at several points above it where a part of the drilling riser remains.

Is Obama a Wall Street Puppet? - with video ~ link ~ Is the Pope Catholic? Do bears sh*# in the woods? This is a good article, take the time to read it if you can.
The Obama administration has been posturing this week about the life and death issue of Wall Street reform. Obama’s predicament is that of a Wall Street puppet who has been put into the White House thanks among other things to almost $1 million of contributions from the infamous Goldman Sachs – but who now needs to make a show of fighting his own Wall Street patrons for political reasons. Of course, Obama’s health-care reform was largely a bailout of insurance companies, which are themselves a key part of Wall Street. But Obama is now pretending to quarrel with Wall Street to shore up his waning credibility, partly because many House Democrats are desperately seeking anti-banker, economic populist street creds in order to avoid defeat in November. So far, the results have been largely feckless and inadequate.
Time Square bomb hoax: Israeli intel group shows its hand ~ link ~ Who would have believed it? Only days after a warning of an Israeli “false flag” bombing against the US “in the works” a massive car bomb is discovered in Time Square! Better yet, though no intelligence organization in the world could discover anyone claiming responsibility for this embarrassing failure, SITE Intelligence, a group rumored as the “voice of the Mossad” has placed the blame on the Pakistani Taliban.
This is the same group that has come up with numerous bin Laden “audio” tapes, seemingly, though tiny and nearly totally unstaffed, whenever it is convenient for Israel to point a finger at someone, magically Site Intelligence, run by former IDF soldier Rita Katz, whose father was executed as a spy by Saddam Hussein, makes another “unbelievable” intelligence find.
Site Intelligence finds are not only timely for Israel, when the world is focused on claims they have been planning a ‘dirty bomb’ attack to send the US to war against Iran, but always tend to support mysterious organizations run from the caves of the Afghanistan/Pakistan border region.

Iran Closes In ~ link ~ Several weeks ago, Israel accused Syria of providing Hezbollah with SCUD ballistic missiles. This sort of thing has been rumored for more than a year. With a range of several hundred kilometers, such missiles could hit any part of Israel with large (half ton) warheads. Syria and Hezbollah denied such a transfer, but recently, Hezbollah has been boasting that it has received longer range missiles that enable it to hit any part of Israel. Hezbollah used longer range rockets (not ballistic missiles) during the 2006 war, but not ones that could strike all of Israel. All this is apparently related to growing Iranian fears of an Israeli attack. Israel is fearful of Iran developing nuclear weapons, and making an air attack on Iran's nuclear weapons facilities is often talked about. Syria and Hezbollah are clients (heavily influenced, but not subordinates) of Iran and are expected to attack Israel if Israel bombed Iran. Israel would be under a lot of voter pressure to find and destroy Hezbollah Scuds if Hezbollah openly boasted of having them, so Hezbollah is coy about the matter.
Cameron: 'Difficult decisions must be taken' - with video ~ link ~Conservative leader David Cameron has conceded that the savings plans the Tories have outlined will not be enough to tackle what he called the "enormous black hole left by Gordon Brown and Labour".
Nick Clegg: Tories in hock to bankers ~ link ~
Figures produced by the Liberal Democrats today show the Tories have raised more than £15m from companies and individuals connected to the City since Cameron was elected leader in 2005.
The party accepted just £3.9m from the City between 2001 and Cameron becoming leader. Half of the City donors were not recorded donors before then.
Ten percent of the Tory candidates in the coming election are bankers or have worked in the sector, compared with 1.5% of the country as a whole.
The Lib Dems also claim that more than half of the Conservatives' outstanding loans from City individuals and businesses were made under David Cameron: £5.3m out of £9.5m.

Nick Clegg, however, is so infuriatingly bright-eyed and bushy-tailed that he puts one in mind of a squirrel foraging for votes as if they were nuts; David Cameron suggests the inborn, nose-in-the-air superiority of a well-bred giraffe, while Gordon Brown resembles nothing so much as a camel in a filthy mood. Putin stuns the Ukraine with surprise gas deal ~ link ~ Since the election in February of Kremlin ally Viktor Yanukovich as Ukraine's president, ties with Moscow have rapidly improved with accords on gas pricing and a lease extension for a key Russian naval base in Ukraine's Crimea. But Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's proposal was Russia's boldest move yet and would allow Moscow to control its gas transit to Europe. Ukraine's opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko said the deal was part of "a plan to destroy Ukraine." "It is not a merger based on partnership but Russia's full acquisition of Ukraine," Tymoshenko said in a statement posted on her party's website. "The Crimea was just the beginning." The deal would at a stroke give Moscow control of the major gas pipelines which run through Ukraine to supply Europe, as well as a lockhold over Ukrainian domestic gas supplies. Owned by the state, Naftogaz is the exclusive importer of Russian gas into Ukraine and about 20 percent of the EU's gas needs flow through its pipelines.
The minister was echoing Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Kim Sung-chan's pledge during Thursday's funeral for the 46 sailors killed in the shipwreck that whoever caused the tragedy would not be forgiven and get away.

North Korea's Kim in China ~ link ~ link ~ North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has apparently embarked on a long-expected China visit. Death Before Denuclearization for North Korea ~ link ~ May 3, 2010: Foreign food aid, via the UN, is expected to end completely next month. Contributions, of food and cash to this program have dried up, mainly because of North Korean nuclear weapons tests, and North Korean government interference in the program (diverting much of the food to the military, or selling it in markets to raise cash). Despite these problems, the UN program got some food to the needy. But while about a quarter of the population is desperate for food aid, the UN program has only been reaching about 15 percent of the needy lately. North Korea is trying to persuade China to send more food, but China also wants North Korea to drop its nuclear weapons program, and North Korea refuses to do this, even if it means another round of famine deaths. For the last six months, North Korean efforts to promote Kim Jong Ils youngest son (Kim Jong Un) as his heir apparent, have been growing. Kim Jong Il is believed to be unwell, even dying. This can only happen if the northern government can cut a deal to shut down nuclear and ballistic missile programs in return for enormous bribes of food, fuel and cash. But northern leaders don't want to give up their nukes, and the five nations negotiating with the north (South Korea, China, Japanese, the U.S. and Russia) are not willing to pay as much as North Korea needs to meet the 2012 promise. The northern government apparently believes it can handle any popular discontent it might encounter in two years. There's not much food up north, but there's plenty of guns and ammo in the hands of security forces. North Korean government officials are admitting, in discussions among themselves, that North Korean forces sank the South Korean warship Cheonan. North Korea officially denies having anything to do with the loss of the Cheonan, but most North Koreans accept the fact that North Korea did the deed, and northerners are proud of that. It's about the only good news northerners have had recently. The economy up there continues to collapse, and food prices are going up. The government is hoping China or South Korea will come through with food aid, quickly. But that food is apparently not on the way.
